Domains com, net and info - re-registration to direct registrar WEDOS

For the com, net and info domains, we were a sub-registrar until September 2021 and used the services of Ascio Technologies for domain registration, renewal and extension. Since we want to become a direct registrar also for domains registered before this date, and not to be officially or price dependent on an intermediary, we decided to solve the situation by re-registering under our accreditation. By being an accredited registrar with ICANN, we have all the prerequisites for this.

In this article you will learn:

Why we need your consent

Ascio Technologies did not allow us to bulk transfer/re-register domains where we would not have to prompt the customer for any action. So we have to handle re-registrations domain by domain.

In this case, the customer who is switching from one registrar (the ASCIO intermediary) to another (WEDOS), we therefore need consent to change the registrar as in a normal re-registration. According to ICANN rules, there is no other, simpler way.

Re-registration under WEDOS administration

The re-registration under WEDOS administration consists of three steps:

  1. Giving consent - this step expresses your consent to the change of registrar and allows further action.
  2. Domain payment - as with any other domain re-registration for com, net and info domains, the procedure includes a 1-year domain renewal and the associated payment.
  3. Re-registration confirmation - this optional step can speed up the re-registration process.

You can find an overview of the domains to be migrated and detailed information on their status in the customer administration at this link ⧉.

Step 1 - Giving consent

Every customer who has registered a com, net or info domain with WEDOS through an intermediary has been sent an email with additional information and a list of affected domains. Each such email also contains a special link directly to the consent page for re-registration.

  • Email sender - wedos@wedos.com
  • Email Subject - Transfer your domains to our WEDOS registrar account and save / Transfer your domains to the WEDOS registrar and save your money.

After clicking on the https://client.wedos.com/domain-migration-confirm/(individual-code) link in the email, check the details of all domains in the overview.

Click on the button I agree to migrate the above domains to WEDOS.

You cannot re-register the domain and proceed to the second step without consent.

Step 2 - Domain Payment

Migrating a domain in this way is charged with one annual fee - you extend the domain for 1 year from the current expiration date at the same time as you change registrar. There are no further changes.

Follow these steps to pay for your domain:

After the payment is made, the system will start the domain re-registration. You can monitor the payment status in the overview.

Step 3 - Confirmation of re-registration

Once you have given your consent and paid the fee, you will receive a message from Ascio Technologies to the domain owner's email with information about the change of registrar.

Without confirmation, re-registration will take up to 5 days, but you can speed it up by confirming.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What if I don't give my consent?
A: In this case, you can expect a price increase from the next period according to the Ascio registrar. We recommend you to give your consent to re-register the domain - the only difference between Ascio and WEDOS registrars is the price.

Q: The migration consent email is not coming, what should I do?
A: Try sending it from another browser, wait a few minutes, check your SPAM folder. If you don't find the email, contact customer support via the form ⧉. Please indicate the email you are unable to send the message to.

Question:
A: The only thing that changes is that WEDOS will become the registrar after the consent is granted and upon the subsequent renewal of the domain. This is only an administrative action resulting from the ICANN terms and conditions.

Question: Will the owner's data remain hidden even after re-registration to WEDOS?
A: Of course it will. Correctly speaking, they are not hidden, but not published according to the rules.
