This article is about the VPS SSD service. The ON VPS has a KVM interface accessible from the ON SunStone administration ⧉.
In this article you will learn:
- How VNC works and what are the alternatives
- How to get VNC credentials
- Which VNC client to use
- Frequently Asked Questions
Access to VPS via VNC
VNC is a protocol that allows remote KVM (Keyboard-Video-Mouse) access. This access is not dependent on the server operating system and is therefore accessible even in case of a crash, it allows booting from CD/DVD and access to the BIOS.
Access via VNC is not for daily use, but mainly for emergency situations when the operating system fails or when installing the operating system from CD/DVD. It is more convenient to work with the server in the usual ways:
- SSH for Linux servers
- Remote Desktop for Windows servers
Getting VNC credentials
To connect to your server, you need a destination address, port and password. You can find this information in the email with the information about setting up the virtual server or in the server details in the customer administration.
To retrieve lost credentials, follow these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- From the top menu, select Server Services VPS SSD/HDD.
- In the overview, select the service you want to access.
- In the service detail, copy the KVM(VNC) address and port from the Technical Parameters table.
- From the left menu, select Change KVM Password.
- Enter and confirm the new password. The change will take effect within 15 minutes.

VNC client
To access the server via VNC, you need a client installed on your computer.
VEDOS does not provide any VNC client of its own and cannot guarantee the functionality of third party clients.
- For Windows we recommend using TurboVNC ⧉ or VeNCrypt ⧉.
- For Linux we recommend TurboVNC ⧉.
- For Mac OS we recommend TigerVNC ⧉.
Communication via VNC is encrypted (VNC over SSL, SSL version must be 3.0). The client used must support such communication.
For SSL we use a certificate called vm.wedos.net. The certificate imprint is:
SHA1 Fingerprint C8:C2:23:33:45:9D:2C:44:F4:3A:CE:9C:71:4B:B0:E1:3B:8F:5C:FD
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if I need to change my root password?
Customer support can resend you an email about setting up the service based on a request sent via the &boxboxbox; form, where you specify the name of the VPS. If you have changed your password after setting up the VPS, we will not be able to reset it for you.
How to resolve errors with VNC client?
We do not provide support for VNC clients. Verify the availability of the server and port, for example, with the command telnet. If the system is not accessible in this way, check to see if the service is down or down, or if the technician has alerted you to a network disconnection due to a server infection.
