WebMail - Alias email boxes (identities)

This article deals with sending emails from webhosting aliases. To set up an alias (alternate name) for a specific mailbox, follow the instructions in Emails - Mailboxes.

The screenshots are taken in the new Elastic template. If you are using the older Larry template, follow the text instructions or change the template at least temporarily according to the manual.

In this article you will learn:

Alias email boxes

If you use multiple domain aliases to point to a single Web host, all of these domains share the e-mail inboxes of that Web host. For example, on Webhost domain.tld with alias aliasova-domena.tld, both info@domena.tld and info@aliasova-domena.tld emails go to the same mailbox .

A variant of an alias mailbox is an alias of a name instead of a domain, for example, the mailbox info@domena.tld can have the alias ladik@domena.tld. You set up such an alias according to the Emails - Mailboxes instructions and it can have the same identity as a domain alias.

In this case, you cannot separate the mail you receive, you can only filter it. However, you can set the address from which you send mail.

Sending emails using identity

Identity settings are usually also supported by desktop or mobile email clients. To set them up there, follow the software's instructions.

You must first establish an identity to send mail from an alias mailbox or domain. In the WebMail ⧉ email client, you set up the identity by doing the following:

  1. Log in to the WebMail client .
  2. Click on the Settings button.
  3. Select Profiles from the menu.
  4. Click Create.
  5. Fill in the form and click on the button Save.

In particular, fill in the fields Show name and E-mail.

If you check Set as default, the client prefers this identity over the actual mailbox and web host name.

You can also set your own automatic signature for the identity in this form.

By setting up an identity, you get the option to choose the name you send mail on. You make this choice in a new message or reply by selecting Sender.

Common problems

Common problems with alias identities include:

SMTP error (553)

Problem: An error is displayed: Cannot add recipient ... Sender address Rejected: not owned by user ...

Cause: the specified identity is not a valid alias for the logged-in mailbox.

Solution: Make sure that the domain is an alias of the correct Webhost, or the mailbox is indeed set to the appropriate alias.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have websites of many companies on one Webhosting and I want to set up each of them with their own info box. How can I achieve this?

The info mailbox is shared by all alias domains on the web host (e.g. info@spolecnost1.tld and info@spolecnost2.tld). If you want to give each company its own mailbox that is not shared with others, try, for example, info-company1, or another unique mailbox name whose accesses you share with the company. This mailbox can still receive messages sent to other alias domains (such as info-spolecnost1@spolecnost2.tld), but only the company with the password for that particular mailbox will have access to it.
