VPS SSD - Additional services

This article discusses additional VPS SSD services. For instructions on how to activate and deactivate additional services, see Services - Additional Services.

See this article for details of additional services:

Double disc

By activating the Double Disk add-on service, you create a separate virtual disk in the system of the same size as the existing disk of your VPS. The system will connect this disk as an additional device.

Activating the Double Disk option has no effect on the existing disk.

If you need to increase not only the disk, but also the performance of the VPS SSD, follow the instructions in VPS SSD - Increase Parameters.

Activating a double disk

The additional service Double Disk is included in the VPS SSD Profi ⧉ variant.

To set up a dual disk, first activate the additional service according to the Services - Additional Services instructions. Then, in the customer administration , turn the VPS off and on. The system will mount the new disk during this reboot.

After booting the operating system, create partitions on the disk device and set up a filesystem on the partitions. Then proceed according to the specifics of your operating system.

Double Disc: Frequently Asked Questions

Will the additional disk size increase when the VPS parameters are increased?

After the increase, check to see if the partition and file system were also automatically increased. If the filesystem is not incremented, follow the instructions in VPS SSD - Incrementing Parameters.

Is there any way to increase only the existing disk and no other parameters of the VPS SSD?

Unfortunately, VPS SSDs only increase modularly and we only increase the disk capacity by adding a second one. Mutually independent parameter manipulation is only supported by the VPS ON ⧉ service.

Internal and external backups

Additional backup services create a backup:

The frequency and location of the backup depends on the backup type you choose.

  • Local daily backups: the system stores backups on other disks within the same server. It overwrites the existing backup with a new backup every day.
  • Weekly external backups: the system stores a backup on another server in another rack. It overwrites the existing backup with a new backup every week.

Activate backup

Both daily local and weekly external backups are included in the VPS SSD Profi ⧉.

Activate the selected backup method by selecting an additional service according to the Services - Additional Services instructions.

Restoring a server from backup

Backups are mainly used for data recovery in case of server failure. Self-recovery is charged according to the current terms and conditions of backups.

To restore your server backup, please contact us via the form ⧉. Please provide the name of the server, the date and time of the backup to be restored and agree to the price. We will attach the provided backup as an additional disk to the virtual server from where you can perform the restore.

Internal and External Backups: frequently asked questions

How do I find out the date and time of the currently available daily/weekly backup?

Send your request via the form ⧉, the technician will provide you with the required information.

Internal snapshots

A snapshot is (in the context of virtualization) the state of a virtual server at a particular point in time. It includes the state of disk devices and RAM. Thus, when the VPS is restored from a snapshot, the server is in the exact state it was in when the snapshot was created.

As an additional service, you can activate 1-10 internal snapshots. You can then manage these at your own discretion. The system stores the internal snapshots on other disks within the same server.

Activate internal snapshots

Internal snapshots with a maximum of 10 activations are included in the VPS SSD Profi ⧉ variant.

To activate the supplemental service for internal snapshots, see Services-Supplemental Services.

When you activate the service, select the number of snapshots that you want to activate. You can change this number later.

Manage internal snapshots

After successfully activating the additional service, you will find the Manage snapshots item in the left menu of the VPS administration.

In this interface you can:

  • Create new snapshots.
  • Delete existing snapshots.
  • Return to the state captured in the snapshot.

When creating a snapshot or restoring from a snapshot, you may experience momentary unavailability. The length of unavailability depends on the size of the VPS disk devices.

After you restore the VPS from a snapshot, you cannot restore the original state before the action.

Internal snapshots: frequently asked questions

I don't see a box in the snapshot management interface to add a new one, what's wrong?

You have reached the maximum number of snapshots. Increase the number of activations of the additional service, or delete existing snapshots.
