VPS ON - Parameter increase

This article deals with the increase of VPS ON service parameters. To increase the parameters of VPS SSD, follow the instructions in VPS SSD - Increase Parameters.

In this article you will learn:

Increasing the parameters of VPS ON allows you to change the number of CPU cores, RAM size and SSD independently within the limits. The system allows you to set the following parameter ranges:

  • Processor cores: 1 to 4
  • RAM: 0.5 to 16 GB
  • SSD disk space: 5 to 480 GB

CPU power is shared in a 1:3 ratio by default. As part of the increase, you can activate the reservation of CPU cores only for the VPS.

Lowering the VPS ON parameters is not supported by the system. Therefore, the increase process is irreversible for the VPS ON.

Implementation of the increase

Take the following precautions before increasing the parameters:

  • Expect a server restart. Make sure that all services on the server start up properly after the reboot.
  • Secure the deposit. No data is lost during the actual increase, but we do record cases of damage due to unprofessional intervention during or following the increase.

Then follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
  2. From the top menu, select Server Services VPS ON.
  3. Select the service you want to increase from the list.
  4. Select Increase Variance in the left menu.
  5. Use the slider to set the target parameters and confirm with the Increase Variant button.

  1. Turn off the server by selectingPower Off .
  2. Undeploy the shutdown server by selecting theUndeploy option.
  3. Turn on the copied server by clicking Resume.

For detailed instructions on how to perform a reboot, see the VPS ON - Restart the server (reset) guide.

Checking the file system

In the case of disk incrementing, check that the filesystem has been incremented correctly.

  • For a pre-installed OS, the increase should take place automatically. If it does not, follow the instructions in the Common Problems section.
  • If you are using a custom OS or LVM, increase the disk on the server manually.

Common problems

Common problems with increasing VPS ON parameters include:

No increase on the server

Problem: The system still shows the original parameter values.

Cause: a common cause is a lack of a thorough reboot.

Solution: Perform a hard reset of the server in the ON Sunstone administration as described in the chapter Rebooting the system. Any other reboot is not sufficient.

System stuck in error state

Problem: The system is stuck in PROLOG_FAILURE, EPILOG_FAILURE, or similar state for more than 10 minutes.

Solution: contact us via the form with a request for verification. Please provide the name or number of the VPS ON service, the situation that led to the error (for example, shutdown after a parameter increase) and the error condition.

Filesystem increase has not taken place

Problem: The filesystem was not automatically incremented on the pre-installed OS.

Solution: Increase the disk on the server manually. For more information and tutorials, see the community article VPS - Scaling up the filesystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make the settings in the operating system for me?

No, we do not interfere with the operating systems on VPS ON.

Is it really necessary to do a reboot with a copy? Won't this damage my files?

Make sure the system is shut down first, then copy it. This will minimize the risk.
