Adding an ISO image of CD/DVD media
VPS SSD and HDD virtual servers have their own virtual drive that allows you to mount ISO images of CD/DVD media.
The system accepts only ISO files available directly via URL without the need to log in, confirm or copy a control code.
There are many pre-made ISO images in the system. If none of them suit you, add your own by following these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select Serverhosting VPS SSD or VPS HDD.
- From the list, select the VPS to which you want to add the ISO image.
- Select Add ISO CD/DVD from the left menu.
- In the Add ISO CD/DVD box, enter the path to the ISO file and confirm with the Download button.

You will see the progress and information about the completion of the ISO file download directly in the customer administration.
Connecting and disconnecting ISO images
Connect or disconnect a pre-made or loaded ISO image by following these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select Serverhosting VPS SSD or VPS HDD.
- From the list, select the VPS to which you want to add the ISO image.
- In the ISO CD/DVD details box of the service, select the desired image and click Connect or Detach.

You will immediately see the attached image in the OS as when you insert the media into the drive.
The CD/DVD remains connected after one soft reset (via the operating system or Ctrl+Alt+Del) and the server will boot from it in this case. After a hard reset the CD/DVD is not connected, except when using the hard reset + connect button.
When working with ISO CDs/DVDs, please observe the following safety precautions:
- If you are no longer using the ISO file, disconnect it. The system continuously deletes files that are taking up space on the shared space, and may shut down the server during such a cleanup.
- If you do not want to boot from the CD/DVD, unplug it immediately after use. Otherwise, an accidental reboot may cause the CD/DVD to boot instead of the VPS operating system.
Booting from CD/DVD
Connect the KVM client before booting from the CD/DVD.
After adding and attaching the ISO image, you can boot from it after a soft reset or hard reset.
Booting after a soft reset
If the operating system responds and you can perform a normal server reboot:
- Connect the CD/DVD in the administration with the connect button.
- Reboot via the operating system or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Del.
The server boots from the attached CD/DVD.
Booting after a hard reset
If you do not have any operating system installed, or if the installed system is not responding and therefore you cannot perform a soft reset, select the desired CD/DVD in the administration and click the hard reset + mount button.
Common problems
Common problems with installing from a custom ISO include:
Cannot read from CD/DVD
Problem: KVM is getting a Could not read from CDROM, Code 0003 error.
Solution: Send the command Ctrl+Alt+Del. Refer to the documentation of the selected VNC client for instructions on how to execute the command.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I upload an ISO from my computer to the system?
Use any repository from which the file can be accessed directly via the URL without the need for further authentication. Uploading ISOs from your own computer is only supported by VPS ON.
