This article addresses resetting a VPS SSD. If you need to reset the VPS ON, follow the instructions in VPS ON - Restart the server (reset).
In this guide you will learn:
Using the restart
For virtual servers, there are 2 ways of restarting:
- Soft reset - reboot via the operating system: the operating system exits, saves all work and instructs the machine to reboot.
- Hard reset - forced reboot (similar to disconnecting the power supply and reconnecting): used when a soft reset is not enough (for example, to increase parameters) or in the case of a malfunctioning operating system.
Restart VPS SSD
You can restart the VPS SSD from the customer administration by following these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- From the top menu, select Server Services VPS SSD/HDD.
- Select the service you want to restart from the list.
- In the Server Control panel, select the desired shutdown, power on, or restart method.

The buttons perform the following functions:
- turn on: turn on the server if it was turned off
- shut down: forcibly shut down the server
- shutdown: sending a shutdown request to the operating system via ACPI (if the operating system on the VPS supports this functionality and has it enabled, it will start shutting down), sometimes it is necessary to send this request multiple times
- soft reset: restart via the operating system
- hard reset: forced server reboot
Shutting down and hard resetting the server disconnects the VNC client.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I should use soft or hard reset?
If a task explicitly requires you to perform a hard reset, do it. Another common use of a hard reset is when the operating system does not respond to a soft reset request.
