Renaming WP Hosting
You can use the Rename tool when you want to change the domain for which WP Hosting is set up. The main reasons for renaming include:
- Freeing up a service name: If you want to create a new service (such as Web Hosting or Mail Hosting) under the name of an existing WP Hosting account, you must rename the original service to free up the name. With a few exceptions, our system does not allow two or more services to have the same name.
- Changing the domain of an existing website: If you are changing the domain of an existing website, rename the Hosting WP. The system will automatically update the WordPress domain in its own records as well.
Renaming procedure
To successfully rename a service, you must first meet the conditions, and then perform the actual renaming of the service in the customer administration.
When renaming your web host, please observe the following conditions:
- The new name for WP Hosting must be a valid second- or third-level domain (domain.tld or subdomain.tld).
- The new name must not be the name or alias of a Web Hosting, Website, or Mail Hosting service.
- If we are the registrar of a domain that is the new name of the Webhosting, this domain must be in the same customer account with the Webhosting, or it must be an account authorized to this domain.
- The Hosting WP must not have expired.
To rename the service itself, follow these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- In the main menu, click the " Hosting Services " tab, then " " and " Hosting WP."
- From the list of services, select the one you want to rename.
- Select the Tools link in the left menu.
- In the "Rename " section, enter the new domain name and select whether you want to automatically configure the domain in WEDOS DNS for your website, email, or both.
- Confirm your selections by clicking Rename.

After the renaming:
- Keep an eye on the system messages, which will let you know whether the renaming is in progress and if any further action is required.
- Wait for a configuration change on the webserver (can take up to 30 minutes) and possibly a DNS configuration change (can take up to an hour). During this time, the site may be unavailable.
Renaming your WP Hosting account will change your email login credentials. Please update your login information in your email clients.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I set up Mailhosting on the same domain as the LowCost WP service?
We recommend upgrading your hosting plan to NoLimit WP, which includes email services. If you prefer to use both LowCost WP and Mailhosting, you can take advantage of a system exception and set up both services under a single domain. In this specific case, renaming is not necessary.
