SMTP, POP3 and IMAP are usually set up in email clients. For instructions on how to set up these clients, please refer to their documentation or the Help ⧉ community tutorial center.

SMTP, POP3 and IMAP protocols
These protocols are used for communication between mail clients and mailservers.
- SMTP is used to send mail from a website or client to a mailserver.
- POP3 (sometimes just POP) transfers mail from the mailserver to the client, deletes messages from the mailserver by default.
- IMAP downloads mail from the mailserver to the client, leaving the messages on the mailserver by default.
Connection settings with mailservers
If you do not want to set up the connection to the mailservers, or if errors occur, log in to the mailbox via the WebMail ⧉ web interface(Manual).
To set up the connection, you will primarily need the addresses of the mailservers. You can find these in the Service Addresses table of the hosting service details by following these steps:
- Log in to customer administration.
- From the top menu, select Hosting Services Webhosting, WMS, WebSite, or Mailhosting.
- Select the service whose mailservers you want to check.
Open detail:

In addition to the mailservers, you also need to know the login and password for the mailbox you want to connect.
- Login name is always the full email address including the domain, for example
ladik@wds-test.cz. - If you don't know your password or it doesn't work, you can change it by following the instructions in Emails - Change mailbox password. After changing it, wait at least 15 minutes for it to be entered into the system.
Sending mail
You can use the SMTP server to send emails from both the client and the web.
| Protocol | Ports | Security |
|---|---|---|
| SMTP(S) client | 465, 587 | SSL/TLS, STARTTLS |
| SMTP(S) - web | 587 | TLS |
Receiving mail
You can choose either POP3 or IMAP to receive mail.
If your chosen mail download method deletes emails from the server directly, there is no backup that we can restore in case of data loss!
| Protocol | Ports | Security |
|---|---|---|
| POP3(S) | 110, 995 | SSL/TLS, STARTTLS |
| IMAP(S) | 993, 143 | SSL/TLS, STARTTLS |
Common problems
Common problems with SMTP, POP3 and IMAP settings include:
Connection to mailserver not working
Problem: You cannot connect to an SMTP, POP or IMAP server.
Cause: The most common cause of connection failures with mailservers is using an outdated address and entering an incorrect username/password.
Solution: First, make sure you enter the correct server address (usually in the form wesX.smtp.wedos.net, or wesX.imap.wedos.net, where X is a number), username and password.
Addresses of the form smtp-12345.m67.wedos.net are obsolete and servers with these addresses may shut down without warning. Replace them with new addresses according to these instructions!
Then try different combinations of ports and security. Try changing your password and logging in with a new one after 15 minutes.
If that doesn't help, check other settings on the email client (including ports and security), or the antivirus software and firewall on the device you're connecting from.
Download emails on multiple devices
Problem: Multiple devices/clients (e.g. computer and mobile) are connected to the email, only one or the other is downloading mail.
Cause: Some email clients delete messages downloaded from the server by default.
Solution: Check that all devices are leaving mail on the mailserver (i.e. not using POP, or have specific instructions not to delete messages). The client cannot retrieve a message from the server that the server before it deleted during the download.
