A domain contact is used to identify a person to the domain registry. The registry typically manages a specific domain ending (for example, national CZ or EU domains) or a group of endings (generic domains). Therefore, you can only use the contact of a given registry for domains managed by that registry.

Domain contact is most often handled from the position of the domain owner. This contact has no effect on the VEDOS customer account data or the domain billing data.

You will find the following important information next to the domain contact:

  • Identifier (ID): this group of characters, typically letters and numbers, is unique for each contact in the registry. Some registries allow you to choose the name of the contact (unless it is occupied by someone else), others generate it automatically. Once created, the contact identifier cannot be changed.
  • Name and surname or Company: the Registry follows its own rules for access to individuals and businesses. However, no registry supports direct changes to a person's name or company name - if such a change occurs, you must create a new contact.
  • E-mail or phone: the e-mail systems send the domain authorization data to the e-mail, so we recommend choosing an address that will always be available, for example, even in the event of a shutdown of the domain to which the contact is linked. In some cases, the telephone is used as an additional authorisation method. The email address and phone number of the contact can be changed.
  • Address: registries verify the addresses of domain contacts. In the event of a mismatch, especially for fictitious addresses, they may block the domains associated with such a contact. The address of the contact can be changed.

If you need to change the details of an existing contact, except for their identifier and the name of the person or company, log in to Customer Administration and follow these steps:

  1. In the navigation bar, select Domains.
  2. From the list, select the domain to which the contact is associated.
  3. In the domain details, click on the name of this contact.
  4. Use the send password link to have the contact's authorization password emailed to you.
  5. Copy the password from the email into the Contact Authorization Password field and click Edit/Show Hidden Data.

You can now make and save modifications to the domain contact, including hiding some of the data that the registry supports.

If the domain contact's email is unavailable, return to the domain details and click on the lifebuoy icon to enter the customer support form. Enter the domain name and the available email address you want to set up for the contact. Once submitted, wait for the VEDOS Authorization Department to contact you. Normal response time is within 1 business day.

To create a new domain contact, first check which registry the domain is in. You can find this information in the domain details under the TLD entry. For example, the registry listed for .fun is CentralNic.

Then locate this registry in the left column of the Domains menu, and under this registry, click Create Contact. Enter the required details, tick the consents and click Submit. You have now created a new domain contact. If you want to update the domain owner's details through this contact, follow the instructions for changing the domain owner.
