This article covers domain redirection, that is, changing the address to another domain. If you want to point a domain to a particular service, follow the guide Domains – Pointing to Services.
Basic domain redirection does not work with the HTTPS protocol. If you want to redirect a domain via HTTPS, follow the instructions in the chapter HTTPS redirection via WEDOS Protection or the article Webhosting – Domain Redirection with HTTPS.
In this guide you will learn:
Website redirection
You can redirect a domain to another website in two ways, each with its own advantages and disadvantages:
- Redirection via the Customer Administration is very easy to set up, both for the main domain and for all subdomains that do not have their own DNS record. However, this redirection on its own does not work with the HTTPS protocol and you can set it up only for domains registered with us.
- Redirection via Webhosting can work with the HTTPS protocol and you can set it up for any domain or subdomain. To set it up, however, you need an active Webhosting service with aliases (NoLimit or NoLimit Extra variants). The setup itself requires editing files via FTP.
Basic website redirection
Basic website redirection in the administration takes effect within 1 hour if set up correctly.
Before setting it up, make sure that the address you are redirecting to does not redirect back to the original domain.
Before you set up redirection in the Customer Administration, make sure that:
- The domain is registered with VEDOS.
- The domain uses our DNS servers.
- You do not link to the address of the redirected domain anywhere using the https:// protocol.
Then follow these steps:
- Log in to the Customer Administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select Domains.
- From the list, select the domain you want to redirect.
- In the left menu, select Redirect settings.
- In the box WWW redirect enter the address you want to redirect to.
- Click the button Set Redirect.

If you want to cancel the redirection, point the domain to a service, or edit the DNS manually.
HTTPS redirection via WEDOS Protection
If you want the redirection to work with the HTTPS protocol as well, you can use one of the features of the WEDOS Protection ⧉system. Follow these steps:
- Activate on the domain the WEDOS Protection Add-on Service.
- Set the domain DNS records according to the instructions in the WEDOS Global administration ⧉.
- After WEDOS Protection activation is complete, check that the domain has the Target IP Address set ⧉
46.28.105.4.

This setting ensures that when a user enters the redirected domain in the form https://..., the redirection takes place and does not end with an error. However, the whole redirection process is not encrypted, which is why you see an HTTPS warning next to the IP address of the redirect server.
HTTPS redirection via Webhosting
You can find the guide to redirection via Webhosting in the article Webhosting – Domain Redirection via HTTPS.
Email redirection
Always redirect emails to a mailbox on another domain.
If you need to direct all emails for a domain to a single mailbox, set up a domain catch-all according to the guide Email – Domain, Permissions, Limits.
You can redirect emails:
- From a domain registered with WEDOS. U této varianty nepotřebujete hosting webu a ni e-mailů, stačí existující e-mailová schránka na jiné doméně. Systém přesměrovává všechny e-maily zasílané na libovolnou adresu (schránku) této domény do určené schránky.
- From a hosting mailbox. This redirection option affects only one specific mailbox instead of the whole domain. You can find the setup guide in the article Email – Mailbox Redirection.
Redirection from a domain
Email redirection from a domain in the administration takes effect within 1 hour if set up correctly.
Before you set up the redirection, make sure that:
- The domain is registered with VEDOS.
- The domain uses our DNS servers.
Then follow these steps:
- Log in to the Customer Administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select Domains.
- From the list, select the domain you want to redirect.
- In the left menu, select Redirect settings.
- In the box Email redirect enter the address you want to redirect to.
- Click the button Set Redirect.

If you want to cancel the redirection, point the domain to an existing service, or change the MX type DNS records manually.
Redirection from a mailbox
Set up the redirection directly on the mailbox of a Webhosting (incl. WMS), Mailhosting or WebSite service according to the guide Email – Mailboxes.
Common problems
Common problems with basic domain redirection include:
Website redirection not working
Problem: An error message is displayed instead of the redirected website.
Cause: Most often, the address of the original domain was entered with https, which basic redirection does not support. Some services, including browser address bars, add it to links automatically.
Less commonly, there is a conflict or redirect loop, where the new domain redirects back to the old one. This situation typically shows the error message TOO MANY REDIRECTS.
Solution: Check whether you are entering the address of the redirected domain with HTTPS. Our redirect server does not support this protocol, so if you need to redirect via HTTPS, follow the instructions in the chapter on HTTPS redirection using WEDOS Protection, or Webhosting – Domain Redirection via HTTPS. Also check that the domain you are redirecting to does not redirect back to the original domain.
Redirected emails do not arrive
Problem: Redirected emails do not arrive in the target mailbox.
Cause: Most often, the target mailbox is set up on the domain you are redirecting. In other cases, anti-spam mechanisms prevent delivery.
Solution: Check the SPAM folder.
If you receive the error message mail for domena.tld loops back to myself, make sure that the domain is not sending emails to itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I redirect a domain to itself with www, or to another one of my subdomains?
You can set up this kind of redirection only via Webhosting, according to the guide Webhosting – Domain Redirection via HTTPS.
How do I redirect a domain via the HTTPS protocol?
Follow the guide Webhosting – Domain Redirection via HTTPS.
How do I redirect a subdomain?
Basic redirection redirects all subdomains that do not have their own DNS records. If you need to redirect one specific subdomain, use the procedure for redirection via HTTPS.
How do I redirect emails for a domain whose DNS is hosted elsewhere?
Make sure it contains a single MX record with the address mxredir.wedos.net.
Is it possible to set up emails from a domain to be delivered to multiple email addresses?
Not in the Customer Administration, but you can forward the emails from the target mailbox (from the administration or by using email client filters, including WebMail).
