Mailhosting - Renaming (domain change)

In this article you will learn:

Change Mail Hosting Domain

If you want to use an existing Mailhosting service with a different domain, you can rename the service. You can also use the renaming if you want to set up another email service for the same domain, such as Webhosting ⧉, WMS &box;, or WebSite &box;.

To change your mailhost domain, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
  2. From the top menu, select Hosting Services Mailhosting.
  3. In the service overview, select the Mailhosting you want to rename.
  4. In the service details in the Mailhost Rename table, enter the new domain and decide whether you want to automatically rewrite the DNS.
  5. Confirm your choices with the Rename button.

The renaming of the service in the system usually takes place within 30 minutes, the DNS modification of the new domain (if the DNS servers are used by WEDOS) within 1 hour.

Common problems

Common problems with renaming Mailhosting include:

Conflicting service name

Problem: Error: domain name is already used on a mailserver of another service (webhosting).

Cause: two email services (including WebHosting and paid WebSite) with the same domain name cannot be operated in our system.

Solution: there is a service (or its alias) that already manages the domain's emails. If you use that service, use its emails as well. If you don't use it, rename it according to the instructions for renaming a web host or WebSite.

Invalid domain name

Problem: ERROR: Invalid TLD or unauthorized mailhosting domain name level is displayed.

Cause: Mailhosting only supports existing 2nd and 3rd level domains (e.g. domain.tld or mail.domena.tld).

Solution: Make sure you don't have any illegal characters in your domain name, a non-existent ending, or that you are not entering a 4th order or higher domain (sub.whatever.domain.tld).

DNS MX records error

Problem: Mail is going out but not coming in.

Cause: the domain probably does not have the correct DNS records of type MX, or they have not been resolved yet.

Solution: Check the correctness of the MX records of the service, ideally using a diagnostic tool that can detect, for example, the use of other DNS servers (e.g. Domain Diagnostics). If there is no problem, follow the instructions in the Emails - Troubleshooting guide.
