Webhosting – Expert Automatic Data Migration

This guide builds on Webhosting – Basic Automatic Data Migration and assumes familiarity with the basic procedures described there.

In this article, you will learn:

Automatic migration expert mode

The most common reasons to use expert automatic migration are:

  • You are migrating a custom website using PHP and MySQL/MariaDB databases, or a CMS other than WordPress.
  • You want to run the website in a specific folder, subdomain, or as an alias.
  • The original Webhosting is located in a specific directory.
  • The information entered in basic mode is insufficient to complete migration correctly.

For detailed instructions on migrating a website as a Webhosting alias, see the article Webhosting – Separate Websites for Aliases.

Performing migration in expert mode

Switch to expert mode using the Expert mode control in the Webhosting automatic website migration interface.

Expert mode provides access to these detailed settings:

Migration destination folder (type)

In expert mode, you can choose to migrate to the website root directory (the www folder) or the domain’s subfolder (www/domains/domena.tld, where domena.tld is the domain name of the migrated website).

To migrate the website as a Webhosting alias, select the second option.

FTP and MySQL

Always enter FTP access details. Besides the required details also used by basic automatic migration, you can change the port (if using SFTP) and enter an alternative path to the files you want to migrate.

If your website uses a database, also enter the relevant MySQL/MariaDB login details. Like FTP access details, these are available from your current provider or in the website configuration files.

For WordPress websites, you do not need to enter database details; the script reads them automatically from the configuration file.

Use this option when enabling Migration to a subfolder for the specified domain. You can specify the subdomain, domain (alias) and any folder on that domain or subdomain to which the website should be migrated.
