This article deals with adding a domain to WEDOS DNS if no records for it exist yet. Domains with WEDOS services can have WEDOS DNS automatically. To verify DNS records, follow the instructions in DNS - Domain Records.
Adding a domain to DNS WEDOS has no effect until you set up our DNS servers for the domain according to the Domains - DNS Servers (NSSET) instructions.
In this article you will learn:
Adding a domain to WEDOS DNS
Domain and service name management in customer administration allows you to automatically add a domain to WEDOS DNS. To verify the existence of a domain in WEDOS DNS and its status, follow these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- Click DNS in the top menu.

If you don't see the domain listed, add it manually.
Automatic domain addition
You have the option to have the domain added to WEDOS DNS automatically when you do the following:
- Register or re-register a domain.
- Setting up a Webhosting (including WMS), Mailhosting or WebSite.
- Renaming Webhosting, Mailhosting, or WebSite.
- Adding a domain as a Webhosting alias.
The WEDOS DNS auto-setup is usually automatically checked during these activities. If you do not want to add a domain to DNS, uncheck it.

Domains added to DNS automatically have pre-populated DNS records. The system automatically routes the domains themselves to the default page, and the hosting services to the corresponding Webhosting, Mailhosting or WebSite.
Automatically adding a domain to WEDOS DNS by re-registering the domain or by setting up and modifying hosting services does not change the DNS servers (NSSET) of the domain.
Manually add a domain
Follow these steps to add a domain to WEDOS DNS.
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- Select DNS from the top menu.
- Select Add domain to DNS from the left menu.
- Fill in:
- Domain name: enter only the second-order domain name (without www and other subdomains, e.g. wds-test.cz). This field is mandatory.
- Type: if you want to manage DNS with us, leave the option set to primary.
- Pattern: when you enter a domain into DNS, you can have the records automatically filled in according to a prepared pattern. There is no mandatory field.
- Primary IP: the IPv4 address of the server from which the domain records are downloaded; works only for the secondary domain. Not a required field.
- Check the consent box and click the add domain button.

Bulk adding domains
To add in bulk, first prepare a pattern for prefilling DNS records. Then proceed as follows:
- Select Bulk Add Domains from the left menu.
- On the page Adding Domains to DNS - Step 1/3 add domain names to the list. Press the button continue.
- To overwrite the settings of an existing domain (for example, one that was created automatically), check Delete existing domains in DNS and create new ones.
- On the Domains to DNS - Adding - Step 2/3 page, select the prepared pattern, check the terms and conditions, and click Continue.
- On the Domains to DNS - Adding - Step 3/3 page, check the information you entered and click Finish.
DNS Patterns
DNS patterns are used to quickly populate DNS records for a new domain. You will use them especially when adding domains to DNS manually and in bulk.
You can find the pattern management interface by following these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- Select DNS from the top menu.
- Select Patterns from the left menu.
In this interface you can add new patterns and manage existing ones.
You can use a wildcard string in patterns (domain), which the system replaces with the domain name during application. For example, when applying the ftp.(domain) pattern to the wds-test.cz domain, the resulting record will be ftp.wds-test.cz.
The system applies patterns to the DNS on a one-time basis - modifying a pattern has no effect on domains previously established through that pattern.
Frequently Asked Questions
