Domains - Register (order) a new service

In this article you will learn:

Choosing a domain

A domain consists of the name itself (e.g. my-domain) and an extension (e.g. .cz).

When creating a name, we recommend considering the following aspects:

  • Matching the purpose of the domain. Does the domain name match the purpose for which you are registering the domain?
  • Legal aspect. Is there a risk of disputes regarding the conformity of the name with the name of the registered brand or other intellectual property?
  • Memorability. Is it easy to remember a domain and type it into the address bar without having to search for it?

When selecting an end cap, consider not only its suitability for your purposes, but also:

  • Price. We guarantee the lowest price of a CZ domain on the market, but for other extensions, especially the promotional ones, we recommend checking the price for both the first year and the renewal in the complete price list ⧉.
  • Support for special characters. Want a domain with hooks, commas, or other special characters? Make sure that the selected extension supports these characters (it is an IDN supported domain). From our offer, these are EU domains, gTLDs (COM, ORG, ...) and selected nTLDs (FUN, ONLINE, ...).

Verifying domain availability

If you have selected a domain, check its availability.

The search engine displays not only the domain with the specified extension, but also alternatives in case the domain with the specified extension is already registered.

The prices listed in the search are for domain registration, the price of subsequent renewal may vary. For current registration and renewal prices, please see the complete price list ⧉.

Auctions of .cz domains

Freshly expired CZ domains can now be acquired in an auction organized by the CZ.NIC ⧉ registry. The auction as such is purely the responsibility of the registry, but you can easily register the won domains with VEDOS - just enter the domain name and the MyID of the contact who won the auction.

After filling out the form, proceed as you would for a regular domain registration.

Domain registration

To get a free domain as a gift with your new hosting order, register it directly as part of your service order.

You can register your domain in the registration form ⧉. This has six steps:

  1. Choosing a domain
  2. Settings
  3. Login/Registration
  4. Domain Owner
  5. Billing information
  6. Finish

The system activates the domain within half an hour after the payment is received.

1. Choosing a domain

Check the completed domain name carefully. A registered (paid) domain with a typo or other error cannot be returned.

In the first step, enter the domain name and specify the downstream or additional services. Among other things, here you can set:

  • Length of registration. Domains can be registered for a minimum of 1 year, and a maximum of 2-10 years depending on the chosen ending.
  • Choice of hosting. Choose whether or not you want to order Webhosting ⧉, Mailhosting &box; or WebSite &box; after you complete your domain order. This option is mandatory.
  • Additional services. In the basic settings for a new domain, the WEDOS EWM Domain Monitoring ⧉ order is checked.
  • 1st year discount. If you have a discount coupon for a domain order (for example, from a promotion for hosting service orders), enter it here.

The price calculation in this step includes all selected additional services for the selected period and the discounts applied. It does not include any downstream services, such as web hosting.

2. Settings

In the second step, select the DNS server and domain contact settings.

  • DNS servers. By default, the domain uses WEDOS DNS servers, but you can also set up foreign DNS servers or NSSET.
  • Contacts. If you have an existing contact at the registry, we recommend that you fill it in for easier management in the future. If you leave the field blank, the system will create a new contact. For more information, see Domains - New Contact.

If you are registering a CZ domain obtained in an auction, fill in this step with the contact of the CZ.NIC (MojeID) holder who won the domain.

If you are unsure of the setting, leave the default values. You can change both the DNS servers and the domain contact later.

3. Login/Registration

In this step, log in or register in the customer administration.

If you are already logged in to the administration, the system will skip this step.

If you have problems logging in, follow the instructions in Administration - Login Problems.

4. Domain owner

In this step, fill in the details of the domain owner.

If you entered an existing domain contact in step 2, the system skips this step.

Pay particular attention to providing the correct details, especially the email of the domain owner.

Typos and other errors can greatly complicate the administration of domain owner authentication and management. The Registry may also shut down a domain with outdated or incorrect information without refund.

5. Billing information

Billing information may differ from the owner's information. The system will send all billing and service setup communications to that email (and only that email).

You can update the billing information for the Service afterwards by following the instructions in Services - Billing Information.

6. Finish

In this step, check the entered data thoroughly, in particular:

  • Domain name (typos and other errors)
  • E-mail of the domain owner
  • Billing e-mail

At the end of the order you can choose to pay via a deposit account.

After submitting your order, the system will immediately send you an e-mail with your payment details. After successful receipt of payment, it will set up the service within 1 hour.

After activation of the domain, or confirmation of the owner's e-mail (generic domains, e.g. COM, ONLINE, ...), the DNS will be resolved within 6 - 48 hours.

Bulk domain registration

Instructions for bulk domain registration can be found in the separate article Domains - Bulk Registration.

Common problems

Common problems with domain registration include:

Auctioned domain registration

Problem: You are getting an error message: domain domena.cz has been auctioned. The domain can only be registered by the winner of the auction, who must enter the contact ID of the owner who won the auction.

Cause: the domain must be registered by the contact who is listed as the winner of the auction.

Solution: Make sure you enter the winner's domain contact (MyID, in capital letters) in step 2 of the registration process.

Check accounting settings

Problem: The error Check accounting settings is displayed, but the TIN is correct.

Cause: The most common source of error is a failure of the Financial Entity Register.

Solution: Wait a few minutes and try to go to the next step of the order again, or enter the billing data of the individual and ask us about adding the TIN to the domain via the contact form ⧉.

Broken domain after registration

Problem: The newly registered domain is active in the administration, but it is not working.

Cause: The DNS servers are not fully propsed, or the domain owner's email has not been verified.

Solution: Wait 6 - 48 hours for the DNS servers to fail over. If the domain is a generic domain (COM, INFO, NAME, ONLINE, ...), find the email in the domain owner's email inbox with the link to confirm the owner's email and follow the instructions in it.

Error in domain name

Problem: There is a typo or other error in the registered domain name.

Solution: Order a new domain with the correct name. If you have also ordered Webhosting, Mailhosting, or WebSite for your domain, rename this service according to the instructions in the links.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a free domain for the service?

If you are ordering web hosting, check the free domain in the gift offer. You will then order the domain at the same time as the hosting. We also offer a free domain discount coupon for some hostings, which you can redeem in the 1st step of ordering a new domain with the given extension. In both cases you will get a free domain for 1 year. Please see this article for details.

I ordered a domain for a few crowns, but now I got an invoice for much more, what's wrong?

We offer the domains on sale at significantly reduced prices for the 1st year of operation. For the following period, the regular price of the domain applies. The current prices for registration (1st year) and renewal (subsequent years) can be found in the domain price list ⧉.
