In this article you will learn:

Diagnostics Toolset

Using this set of tools, available from the Customer Administration, you can check a large number of possible problems you may encounter with domains and Webhostings. These may include service expiration, how services are linked to each other, Webhosting performance, and public domain data.

You can access the basic domain diagnostics by following these steps:

  1. Log in to the Customer Administration[administrace].
  2. In the top menu, select Domains.
  3. In the table, select the specific service you want to diagnose.
  4. In the left menu, select Domain diagnostics.

Domain diagnostics are also available for Webhosting and WMS.

The diagnostics toolset currently contains three tools:

  • Basic diagnostics is used for a basic check of the status of your services. It very quickly detects problems with DNS servers and records, or with expiry.
  • Web application performance is based on the external tool WebPageTest, which puts the specified web page through a thorough performance test.
  • WHOIS retrieves publicly available data about the domain from an external service.

Basic diagnostics

This diagnostic generates the following tables with diagnostic data:

  • Domain in the registry contains information about the domain taken from the registry, in particular the registrar, the expiry date and the configured DNS servers (NSSET).
  • Domain in the system supplements the registry information about the domain with internal WEDOS data.
  • Webhosting for the domain contains data about the webhosting named after the (sub)domain, if it exists.
  • DNS contains mainly diagnostic information about DNS servers and records.
  • Serverhosting for the domain and VPS ON contain information about the servers the domain points to, if any exist.
  • WMS webhosting for the domain contains data about the webhosting named after the (sub)domain, if it exists on the WMS service.

Domain in the registry

This table contains basic information about the domain as the registry sees it.

  • Domain: name of the diagnosed domain.
  • IDN ACE: transcription of the diagnosed domain name, if it uses characters from foreign alphabets (for example diacritics).
  • We register TLD: information on whether this extension can be registered with us.
  • Availability: information on whether the domain is registered or not.
  • Registrar: information on whether we register this particular domain or not, and the name of the domain registrar.
  • Status: overview of the domain statuses, for example restrictions on working with the domain (clientHold and similar).
  • Expiry: expiry date and the number of days remaining until this date (negative numbers represent time after expiry).
  • DNS: list of DNS servers the domain uses, according to the registry data. You can find more information in the article Domains – DNS servers (NSSET).
  • DNS status: DNS server settings and a list of any conflicts.
  • DNSSEC status: DNSSEC settings and any conflicts. You can find more information in the article Domains – DNSSEC.

Domain in the system

This table contains supplementary information about the domain from the VEDOS system.

  • Recorded: information on whether the system already records the domain (for example, if it was registered with us in the past or was accepted for transfer).
  • Status: information on whether the domain can be managed in the system (active) or not (deactivated, deleted).
  • Expiry: expiry date and the number of days remaining until this date (negative numbers represent time after expiry).
  • Owner email address verification: information on whether the domain owner has verified their email address (if the registry requires verification).

If, for a generic domain (com, net, biz, info, name), the item Owner email address verification you can see the status not required, your email address may still not be verified. The actual status can be confirmed by customer support ⧉.

Webhosting for the domain

This table contains data about the webhosting named after the (sub)domain, if it exists. If you use the service WebSite ⧉, you will find here the data of the hosting assigned to it.

  • Webhosting: information on whether a webhosting is set up for the (sub)domain and whether it is in the given customer account.
  • Status: short description of the webhosting status:
    • waiting for payment – the payment has not arrived yet or was not successfully matched (incorrect variable symbol or amount),
    • being set up – takes up to 1 hour,
    • active – the webhosting is fully functional,
    • suspended – the webhosting is out of operation, but you can restore it by paying for the service; this lasts 30 days after expiry, and if the service has run out, this time is shortened to 7 days,
    • deleted – the webhosting is completely deleted and we cannot restore it.
  • Expiry: expiry date and the number of days remaining until this date (negative numbers represent time after expiry).
  • Cluster: location on the server where the hosting is stored. You will use it especially when monitoring the service Status ⧉.
  • A records: information on whether the IPv4 address of the domain points to the given webhosting.
  • AAAA records: information on whether the IPv6 address of the domain points to the given webhosting. AAAA records are optional.
  • MX records: information on whether the webhosting uses (at least partly) our mail servers.
  • Emails – space: current information on the usage of email space.
  • Emails – sent (PHP): number of emails sent on this day via the PHP mail() function.

DNS

This table contains basic information about DNS servers and records.

  • DNS: list of DNS servers the domain uses, determined by a separate diagnostic. If it differs from the DNS in the Domain in the registry table, the DNS servers are probably being changed.
  • DNS status: summary diagnostics of the DNS servers.
  • A: list of the domain’s A records (without subdomains).
  • AAAA: list of the domain’s AAAA records (without subdomains).
  • MX: list of the domain’s MX records (without subdomains).
  • WDNS: information on whether the domain uses WEDOS DNS.
  • DNSSEC: information on whether DNSSEC security is active for the domain. You can find more information in the article Domains – DNSSEC.

Serverhosting for the domain

This table contains basic information about the serverhosting for the domain. It may be a dedicated server, a VPS SSD service, VPS HDD, a redirect server (if the domain has redirectionset up), or a Miniweb server.

  • Serverhosting: Name and number of the serverhosting. Click the magnifier button to open the details of the server.
  • Type: kind of server – virtual or dedicated.
  • Status: short description of the serverhosting status:
    • waiting for setup – the payment has not arrived yet or was not successfully matched (incorrect variable symbol or amount), or the service is being set up (within 1 hour of receiving the payment),
    • active – the server is fully functional,
    • suspended – the webhosting is out of operation, but you can restore it by paying for the service; this lasts 30 days after expiry, and if the service has run out, this time is shortened to 7 days.
  • Expiry: expiry date and the number of days remaining until this date (negative numbers represent time after expiry).
  • IP addresses: IPv4 addresses assigned to the serverhosting.
  • Cluster: location where the virtual server is stored.
  • VPS status: overview of the number of CPUs the server uses, and the status of the server and network.

Frequently Asked Questions

How up to date is the data in the diagnostics?

The data is usually up to date within minutes (for example service status) to hours (DNS servers).

According to the diagnostics everything is active, but my services still don’t work. Why is that?

Even active services can show errors. This may be due to:

  • service restrictions – monitor the service Status ⧉;
  • outdated information in the diagnostics (applies to DNS records and servers) – wait at least 1 hour;
  • another problem – look for a solution based on the error message, or contact Support ⧉.

How do I find out whether an error on Status concerns my webhosting?

You can find the cluster of services your webhosting is in using the diagnostics, in the Webhosting for the domain box, in the Cluster item.

I have set A/AAAA/MX records, but according to the diagnostics they do not point to the webhosting. What is going on?

Check that you made the change of records on the DNS servers you actually use. If the records still do not match, the change of the records themselves may still be in progress (usually up to 1 hour), or the change of the servers (which can take up to 48 hours).

Why do the Domain in the registry and DNS tables show different DNS server names?

The DNS servers were probably changed within the last 48 hours.

How do I find more detailed records of a (sub)domain?

If you have DNS records with us, you can access them by following the guide DNS – Domain Records.

What does Emails – space 0MB (?%) of GB mean?

This Webhosting on WMS does not have email mailboxes enabled. You can enable mailboxes by clicking the Mail Settings link in the left menu.
