This article describes how to activate the EWM Add-on Service and how to use the basic controls. You can find more information about the individual tests in the article EWM – Tests, while the guide to scheduling outages and managing status pages is described in EWM – Outages and Status Pages.

In this guide you will learn:

The EWM extension

Early Warning and Monitoring – EWM ⧉ is an Add-on Service for a domain. It continuously monitors the availability of the services running on the domain and sends warnings if they become restricted or even go down.

We offer the service in three plans – Start, Professional and High Availability. Detailed information about the tests performed in each plan is available on the WEDOS EWM product page ⧉.

By default, the service includes the tests we recommend, but you can adjust them within your chosen plan. You can find more information in the chapter Manual test setup.

Extended domain-independent testing options are offered by the WEDOS OnLine ⧉.

Activating EWM

You can activate EWM right in the domain order, or in the Customer Administration.

Activation in the domain order

In domain order ⧉ activate EWM by following these steps:

  1. In the first step of the order, find the table Add-on Services.
  2. Tick the item WEDOS EWM Domain Monitoring and select a plan if needed.

  1. Log in to the Customer Administration ⧉.
  2. In the top menu, select Domains.
  3. From the list of domains, select the service for which you want to fine-tune EWM.
  4. In the service detail, click the button Go to EWM.

You can quickly tell the state of the services on the domain by the colour of the service label:

Running and successful tests are marked green. There is no problem, the server is running properly.
Running tests with a warning are marked yellow. The server is running, but it may be responding more slowly, for example.
Running tests with an error are marked red. The server is not responding, or the test is set up incorrectly.
Paused tests are grey. The test has been created but is paused.
Unconfigured tests are not displayed. You must set up the test manually.

Manual test setup

For some tests, automatic setup is not available at all, and for others you may want to fine-tune it. To access the test settings, click the blue button detail. Fill in the required settings and save them with the green button Save Changes.

Some tests are based on the domain’s DNS records. To start such a test, it is enough to create the given record; the EWM service starts the test automatically as soon as it detects the new record.

Monitoring and notification settings

In the Settings Monitoring Settings menu you can change:

  • The interface language and time zone,
  • The email addresses for delivering errors and warnings,
  • Turning the sending of warnings or failure notifications on or off for all tests.
