You can use the domain owner change when you are transferring your domain to another person or company, or when you are changing your name or company name. When you change the email or physical address of the current domain owner, just edit the domain contact.

A change of domain owner will only be reflected in the domain registry. If you are transferring the domain to someone else, we recommend that in addition to changing the owner, you update your billing information and move to the correct VEDOS customer account.

Before you change the owner, make sure that the new owner has a domain contact in the VEDOS administration with the corresponding registry. As a rule, you can use an existing domain contact with the same extension, or create a new one. In either case, make a note of the contact's identifier, which is usually a combination of letters and numbers, sometimes separated by hyphens.

If you have a new owner's contact ID ready, log in to the VEDOS customer administration and enter the interface for changing the domain owner:

  1. In the navigation bar, select Domains.
  2. Select the domain whose owner you want to change from the list.
  3. Select Change Owner from the left menu.

The actual process of changing the owner depends on the domain ending.

The CZ domain requires very strict authorization of the change of owner. You can do it online by verifying the email addresses and phone numbers of both the original and new owner. In this case, enter the owner's identifier, in the Change Confirmation Method section, select the Change to be confirmed by both the original and new owner using email and SMS, check the consents, and click the Create Request button.

The system will send an email with a verification link and an SMS with a code at the same time. Enter the SMS code in the corresponding field on the link, and then fill in the domain contact's authorization password. This can be sent from the administration or directly from the CZ.NIC registry.

Once you have entered your verification details, tick the consent box and click the Confirm Request button. Once this has been successfully completed by both the original and new owner, the change of ownership will take place in the register, usually within a few tens of minutes.

If the phone number of the original owner is unavailable, edit the domain contact and try changing the owner online again.

If the original owner's email is unavailable, make the change of owner request with certified signatures. You can send the application to any email address, print it, sign it, have it officially certified and mail it to the VEDOS address found directly in the text of the application.

Other domain extensions require only a domain authorization password to start the change of ownership process. You can have this sent to you directly via the send password link. The information will be sent to the email of the original domain owner. If this email is unavailable, please contact customer support by clicking on the lifebuoy button in the domain details. Please provide the domain name and a working email contact. After submitting, wait for the VEDOS Authorization Department to contact you. Normal response time is within 1 business day.

For EU, SK and PL domains, entering the correct authorization password completes the change of ownership process. Updating the registry data usually takes a few tens of minutes.

To complete a generic domain owner change, follow the instructions sent to both the original and new owner's emails. Just click on the link in the email and confirm the request. If both parties confirm the change within 5 days of the request, the registry will usually be updated within 1 hour.
