What HTTPS is and what it is used for
HTTPS (HTTP over SSL) is a newer standard of the HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) internet protocol which, unlike its predecessor, encrypts communication. Clients can therefore also send sensitive data securely over this protocol.
The Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate is issued by the non-profit certificate authority Let’s Encrypt ⧉. This certificate is completely free, and its management on our Webhosting is largely automated.
An SSL certificate is usually stored on web hosting servers. HTTPS cannot be set up on the domain itself. Domains (DNS) are secured by the technology DNSSEC.
Quick HTTPS Activation with a Let’s Encrypt Certificate
Fully enabling HTTPS with a Let’s Encrypt certificate can take up to 90 minutes.
If you do not have HTTPS activated on your web hosting yet, you can enable the version with a Let’s Encrypt certificate by clicking the button Quick Setup:
- Log in to Customer Administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select Hosting Services Webhosting.
- Select your web hosting in the service list.
- In the left menu, select HTTPS.
- Click the button Quick Setup.
- Wait up to 90 minutes (30 minutes for activation, 60 minutes for the changes to propagate) for the certificate to start working.
Quick Setup:
- sets up the Add-on Service free of charge HTTPS support on the SNI domain (if you do not have it yet),
- activates HTTPS with a Let’s Encrypt certificate on the main domain and also on aliases,
- adds the main domain of the web hosting (not the aliases) to the certificate, both with and without www.
After the certificate is activated in the administration (usually within 30 minutes), it starts working properly within 1 hour.
If the website still uses the insecure HTTP protocol after the certificate has been set up successfully, make additional settings on the website itself. Continue with the guide Webhosting – HTTPS Setup on the Website.
Manual Setup
If you cannot use Quick Setup, or if you need to add alias domains and subdomains other than www, set up HTTPS manually following the guide Webhosting – Manual HTTPS Setup.
HTTPS Setup on the Website
If the website still uses the insecure HTTP protocol after HTTPS has been set up successfully in the Customer Administration, adjust its settings following the guide Webhosting – HTTPS Setup on the Website.
Common Problems
Common problems with Quick Setup of HTTPS include:

Prohlížeč hlásí nezabezpečené připojení
Problem: Prohlížeč před otevřením webu hlásí „Toto připojení není soukromé“ nebo „nezabezpečeno“, případně web po přepnutí adresy na https přestal fungovat.
Cause: Na webhostingu není aktivní HTTPS, a web proto nemá SSL certifikát.
Solution: Zapněte HTTPS tlačítkem Rychlé nastavení a vyčkejte až 90 minut. Přepnuli-li jste adresu webu na https, nastavte HTTPS i na samotném webu podle návodu Webhosting – HTTPS Setup on the Website.
Instalátor hlásí nedostupný cíl instalace
Problem: Instalátor aplikací hlásí, že cíl instalace není dostupný přes protokol HTTP(S) a že nejspíš nepoužíváte výchozí soubor .htaccess.
Cause: Na webhostingu není aktivní HTTPS, nebo se v souboru .htaccess neodkazuje na složku www/domains.
Solution: Zapněte HTTPS tlačítkem Rychlé nastavení, vyčkejte 60–90 minut a instalaci zopakujte. Hlásí-li instalátor chybu dál, obnovte výchozí soubor .htaccess podle článku Webhosting - The .htaccess File a zkontrolujte obsah FTP podle článku Webhosting – Application Installer.
The Quick Setup button is missing
Problem: The Quick Setup button is not displayed on the HTTPS settings page.
Cause: HTTPS is probably already active on the web hosting.
Solution: If you need to reset HTTPS quickly, disable it. Note that this will remove all existing HTTPS settings in the administration. The Quick Setup button will then appear.
Aliases are missing in the certificate
Problem: Quick Setup added only the main domain and its www variant to the certificate; the aliases are missing.
The www domain cannot be set up
Problem: Při rychlém nastavení nebo pokusu o přidání domény se zobrazuje chybová hláška: Doména www.domena.tld nelze použít pro vygenerování Let’s Encrypt certifikátu.
Cause: Doména, nebo konkrétně subdoména www, nesměřuje v DNS na Webhosting.
Solution: Zkontrolujte DNS záznamy domény. Nepoužívá-li doména DNS servery WEDOS, nasměrujte ji ručně u poskytovatele DNS. Doménu nebo subdoménu zadávejte při přidání do certifikátu jen jednou (obchod.wds-test.cz, ne obchod.wds-test.cz.wds-test.cz). Všechny domény i subdomény přidávané do certifikátu musejí mít both A and AAAA records (if they exist) pointed to Webhosting.
HTTPS does not work
Problem: HTTPS does not work after Quick Setup was performed.
Cause: Even though the setting is called Quick, activation and propagation of the certificate can still take up to 90 minutes. Errors may also occur during setup.
Solution: After performing Quick Setup, wait 60–90 minutes for the certificate to propagate. If you see errors in the administration, or HTTPS still does not work properly after 90 minutes, set it up manually following the guide Webhosting – Manual HTTPS Setup. If the website still works over HTTP as well, force HTTPS following the guide Webhosting – HTTPS Setup on the Website.
