When to use this guide

Application Installer

With the application installer, you can easily and quickly install one or more popular PHP applications on your webhosting.

The installer only performs a one-time initial installation. All further management, maintenance and updates of the application are entirely the customer’s responsibility. We are not responsible for the proper functioning of the applications.

You can find the current list of applications, including their versions, in the installer menu (see chapter Installing an application). Install other applications manually according to the manufacturer’s manual.

The application installer creates its own folders on FTP in the directory www/domains/domena.tld, where domena.tld is the specific domain the installer installs to. It also creates its own databases with randomly generated names.

You can install a maximum of 30 applications on one webhosting using the installer.

Installing an application

Before you start installing, make sure that:

  • the domain or subdomain you are installing to has DNS records set up and propagated to the given webhosting,
  • the FTP folder you want to install to in the directory www/domains/(installation target) is empty or does not exist,
  • in the directory www you have the file .htaccess with our rules.

To install an application, first open the installer menu using the following procedure:

  1. Log in to your account in the Customer Administration ⧉.
  2. Select the tab Hosting services Webhosting or WMS.
  3. Open the details of the webhosting you want to install to.
  4. In the left menu, select Application installer.

In the installer menu, you will find all supported applications, including the highest version you can install through the installer. For some applications, you can also install lower versions.

To continue with the installation, select the application you want to install from the menu.

Application details

After selecting an application, you will be taken to a details page, where you will find mainly the list of available versions and the application’s requirements for the PHP version and enabled functions. You will also find links to the application’s website, documentation or support.

To continue with the installation, select the application version and click the button Install.

2. Application settings

Fill in the required settings and click the button Continue.

Save the application’s login credentials in a safe place. Recovering them follows the application’s own rules; you will not find them in the Customer Administration after a successful installation.

3. Order summary

In this step, check the installation target and settings. At the latest in this step, the installer will warn you about any errors.

If there is an error in the settings (the previous step), you can change it by clicking the link Settings in the table.

If there is an error in the installation target (the first step), start the installation again.

4. Installation

In this step, you can follow the progress of the installation. The system will then display information about its successful completion.

The installer creates a database for the given application. During the installation, you will receive an email about the database being set up, which you can archive or delete.

Common problems

The most common causes of application installer failure are:

Domain does not point to hosting

Problem: The following error message appears: The selected domain (or subdomain) does not point to this webhosting in DNS.

Cause: The domain is not pointed to the webhosting, the change has not yet propagated in DNS (because of a recent change of DNS records or servers), or the routing to the webhosting is hidden by a reverse proxy server (WEDOS Global, CloudFlare and similar services).

Solution: Find out where your domain’s DNS records are hosted. If they are with us, change them following the guide DNS – Domain Records, or Domains – Pointing DNS to Services. Wait for the DNS records to propagate (usually takes 1 – 2 hours) and repeat the installation.

If your domain uses WEDOS Protection ⧉ or another reverse proxy service, temporarily point the DNS of the domain (or of the specific subdomain) directly to the webhosting. If you are not sure how to do this, contact Customer Support ⧉.

Existing application

Problem: The following error message appears The installation order below has the same installation target as you entered in the form.

Cause: Applications cannot be reinstalled directly; to install a new one, you must first remove the previous application in the same target.

Solution: Before you continue with the installation, make sure you are installing to the correct directory and are not overwriting an application installation that you want to keep. To reinstall an existing application, proceed as follows:

  1. In the warning, click the button Uninstall Application and Continue with New Order.
  2. Connect to the hosting using an FTP client (for example webFTP ⧉).
  3. On FTP, in the folder www/domains delete the folder with the previous installation.
  4. Continue with the new installation.

Errors in the .htaccess file

Problem: In the third step, the following error message appears: The specified installation target is not available over the HTTP(S) protocol. You are probably not using our default .htaccess.

Cause: This error can have two main causes: the file .htaccess in the folder www either does not route requests according to the expected (default) directory structure of the webhosting, or it contains code that forces HTTPS, which can complicate the installation.

Solution: In the Customer Administration, restore the default .htaccess file and perform the installation again over the http protocol.

If needed, after the installation is finished, delete in the folder www the restored file .htaccess and rename its latest backup to .htaccess.

Old files in the target folder

Problem: In the third step, the following error message appears: The target directory /www/domains/domena.tld is not empty.

Cause: After uninstalling the application in the administration, you probably forgot to delete the files on FTP as well, or the deletion was prevented by an error on FTP.

Solution: Connect to the hosting using an FTP client (for example webFTP ⧉). On FTP, in the folder www/domains delete the folder you want to install to and repeat the installation.

If the folder with the original installation cannot be deleted, fix the file permissions and try again. If the problems persist, activate temporary access for support and contact us ⧉.

Unsupported PHP version

Problem: In the first step, the following error message is displayed: The application cannot be installed because the configuration does not meet these requirements: … Or the installation fails with the message Unfortunately, the application installation failed for some reason with the description The selected version … is not compatible with the selected install location, which states the required PHP range and the detected version.

Cause: The PHP version set on your webhosting is too old (or too new). Older versions of applications (for example WordPress) may not work with the latest PHP version.

Solution: In the Customer Administration, change the PHP configuration. Wait 30 minutes for the new version to take effect and install the required application.

After a successful installation, you can raise the PHP version again, provided the application itself supports it.

If the installer reports the same error even after changing PHP, wait for the new version to take effect and check that it has been changed on the webhosting you are installing to. If the error persists, contact us ⧉.

Installation successful, but the website shows a plugin error

Problem: After a successful installation, the following error appears on the website or when you try to log in to the administration Warning: session_start(): open(/data/web/virtuals/X/virtual/session/sess_xxx, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in /data/web/virtuals/X/virtual/www/domains/domena.tld/wp-content/plugins/limit-login-attempts-reloaded/core/LimitLoginAttempts.php on line 387

Cause: The error originates in the preinstalled security plugin Limit Login Attempts Reloaded.

Solution: Disable the plugin via FTP:

  1. Log in with your FTP account to WebFTP ⧉.
  2. Go to the WordPress plugins folder, for example www/domains/domena.tld/wp-content/plugins/.
  3. Rename the folder limit-login-attempts-reloaded to limit-login-attempts-vyrazeno.

Frequently asked questions

What if the installation over https does not work, but I need the application to be accessible over https?

Install the application over http and set up https in the application only after the installation. Follow the guide Webhosting – Setting Up HTTPS on a Website.

I need a different version of the application than the one in the installer. How should I proceed?

If you want a higher version, you can install the one in the installer and then update.

Install a lower version manually, following the guide from the manufacturer or distributor of the application.

Can I use plugins in the application?

Yes, after the installation you can extend applications with plugins. However, keep the performance of the webhosting in mind. A large number of plugins with high performance requirements can lead to Error 503.

Can I install multiple applications on one hosting?

Yes, as long as you install them in different places (domains, subdomains, folders). The maximum number of applications installed this way is 30.

I have a domain and want to build a website myself. Is the domain enough, or do I need webhosting too?

Besides the domain, you also need a service on which the website will run. For a simple website without programming knowledge, the WebSite service with an editor is intended. If you want WordPress or another application, order webhosting and install the application with the installer following this article. The services are described in the article Webhosting – Ordering a New Service.

Does the application installer offer templates for WordPress?

No, the installer only performs a basic WordPress installation. Install templates after the installation directly in the WordPress environment.

The installer reports that the installation target is not available over HTTP(S). What should I try first?

Install over the http protocol, not https, and turn on HTTPS only after the installation is finished. If the error persists, follow the chapter Errors in the .htaccess file.
