DNS – Adding a Domain

On this pageAdding a Domain to WEDOS DNSDNS PatternsFrequently Asked Questions

This article covers adding a domain to WEDOS DNS when no records exist for it with us yet. Domains with VEDOS services can have WEDOS DNS set up automatically. To check your DNS records, follow the guide DNS – Domain Records.

Přidání domény do DNS WEDOS nemá žádný účinek, dokud doméně nenastavíte naše DNS servery podle návodu Domains – DNS Servers (NSSET).

In this article you will learn:

Adding a Domain to WEDOS DNS

Domain and service name management in the Customer Administration allows you to add a domain to WEDOS DNS automatically. To check whether a domain exists in WEDOS DNS and what its status is, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Customer Administration ⧉.
  2. In the top menu, click DNS.

If you do not see the domain in the list, add it manually.

Automatic Domain Addition

During the following actions, you can have the domain added to WEDOS DNS automatically:

Automatic WEDOS DNS setup is usually ticked by default for these actions. If you do not want to add the domain to DNS, untick it.

Domains added to DNS automatically usually come with pre-filled DNS records. The system automatically points the domains themselves to the default page, and hosting services to the corresponding Webhosting, Mailhosting or WebSite.

Automatically adding a domain to WEDOS DNS by transferring the domain or by creating and modifying hosting services does not change DNS servers (NSSET) of the domain.

Manual Domain Addition

To add a domain to WEDOS DNS, follow these steps.

  1. Log in to the Customer Administration ⧉.
  2. In the top menu, select DNS.
  3. In the left menu, select Add domain to DNS.
  4. Fill in:
    • Domain name: enter only the second-level domain name (without www or other subdomains, e.g. wds-test.cz). This field is required.
    • Type: if you want to manage DNS with us, leave the option set to primary.
    • Pattern: when adding a domain to DNS, you can have the records filled in automatically from a prepared pattern. This field is optional.
    • Primary IP: the IPv4 address of the server from which the domain records are downloaded; works only for a secondary domain. This field is optional.
  5. Tick the consent and click Add Domain.

Bulk add domains

For bulk addition, first prepare a pattern for pre-filling DNS records. Then proceed as follows:

  1. In the left menu, select Bulk add domains.
  2. On the Domains to DNS – adding – step 1/3 page, add the domain names to the list. Click Continue.
    • If you want to overwrite the settings of an existing domain (e.g. created automatically), tick the option delete already existing domains in DNS and create new ones.
  3. On the Domains to DNS – adding – step 2/3 page, select the prepared pattern, tick the consent to the terms and click Continue.
  4. On the Domains to DNS – adding – step 3/3 page, check the entered data and click Finish.

DNS Patterns

DNS patterns are used to quickly fill in the DNS records of a new domain. They are most useful when adding domains to DNS manually and in bulk.

You can find the pattern management interface by following these steps:

  1. Log in to the Customer Administration ⧉.
  2. In the top menu, select DNS.
  3. In the left menu, select Patterns.

In this interface, you can add new patterns and manage existing ones.

In patterns, you can use the placeholder (domain), který systém při aplikaci nahradí názvem domény. Například při aplikaci vzoru ftp.(domain) na doménu wds-test.cz bude výsledný záznam ftp.wds-test.cz.

The system applies patterns to DNS only once – editing a pattern has no effect on domains previously created using that pattern.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I add a domain manually under VEDOS, will its current settings change?

The DNS records you set up following this guide will not take effect until you set the WEDOS DNS servers for the domain according to the guide Domains – DNS Servers (NSSET).

How do I remove a domain from DNS?

The system removes a domain from DNS after a certain period of inactivity (for example, if the domain uses other DNS servers).
