In this article you will learn:

Changing the Mailhosting domain

If you want to use an existing Mailhosting service with a different domain, you can rename the service. Renaming is also useful if you want to set up a different service with email for the same domain, for example Webhosting ⧉, WMS ⧉, or WebSite ⧉.

To change the Mailhosting domain, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Customer Administration ⧉.
  2. In the top menu, select Hosting services Mailhosting.
  3. In the service overview, select the Mailhosting you want to rename.
  4. In the service detail, in the table Rename Mailhosting enter the new domain and decide whether you want to overwrite the DNS automatically.
  5. Confirm your choices with the button Rename.

Common problems

Common problems with renaming Mailhosting include:

Conflicting service name

Problem: You see ERROR: the domain name is already used on the mail server by another service (webhosting).

Cause: Our system does not allow two services with email (including Webhosting and paid WebSite) to have the same domain name.

Solution: There is a service (or its alias) that already manages the email of the given domain. If you use this service, use its email as well. If you do not use it, rename it following the guide to renaming Webhosting, or WebSite.

Invalid domain name

Problem: You see ERROR: Invalid TLD or disallowed level of the mailhosting domain name.

Cause: Mailhosting supports only existing second- and third-level domains (e.g. domain.tld or mail.domain.tld).

Solution: Make sure the domain name does not contain disallowed characters or a non-existent extension, and that you are not entering a fourth- or higher-level domain (sub.anything.domain.tld).

DNS MX record error

Problem: Mail is being sent, but not received.

Cause: The domain probably does not have correctly set MX DNS records, or they have not propagated yet.

Solution: Check that the MX records of the service are correct, ideally using a diagnostic tool that will also reveal, for example, the use of other DNS servers (e.g. Domain diagnostics). If the problem is not there, follow the guide Email – Troubleshooting.
