Domain transfers

A domain transfer changes only the registrar: the company that arranges domain registration with the organization managing the extension (the registry).

You can change domain billing details during a transfer because, from our perspective, you are creating a new service.

Transferring a domain does not change its DNS servers. Before transferring, make sure the server operator will not limit or discontinue DNS service for the domain as a result. To change the servers after transfer, follow the guide Domains – Managing DNS Servers (NSSET).

Transfer requirements

Domain transfers require certain conditions to be met, most commonly payment of a transfer fee, which also renews the domain registration, and entry of an authorization password.

CZ transfer requirements

A CZ domain can be transferred in any state, including after expiration, unless registrar changes are prohibited. Transfer is free and does not renew the domain.

You can request the authorization password through the transfer form, any registrar or directly from the registry CZ.NIC ⧉.

SK transfer requirements

An SK domain can be transferred in any state, including after expiration, unless registrar changes are prohibited. The transfer fee renews the domain for 1 year.

Request the authorization password (AUTH-ID) and removal of any registrar change prohibition from your current registrar.

EU transfer requirements

An EU domain can be transferred in any state, including after expiration, unless registrar changes are prohibited. The transfer fee renews the domain for 1 year.

Request the authorization password (AUTH-ID) and removal of any registrar change prohibition from your current registrar, or after logging in to the My .eu interface ⧉.

PL transfer requirements

A PL domain can be transferred in any state, including after expiration, under these conditions:

  • No registrar change prohibition is set on the domain.
  • At least 5 days have passed since registration or the last transfer.

Transfer is free; for an expired domain, a fee applies that renews the domain for 1 year.

Request the authorization password (AUTH-ID) and removal of any registrar change prohibition from your current registrar.

gTLD and nTLD transfer requirements

Generic domains COM, NET, ORG, INFO and BIZ, and new generic domains such as NAME, ONLINE and WEBSITE, can be transferred in any state, including after expiration, under these conditions:

  • No registrar change prohibition is set on the domain.
  • At least 60 days have passed since registration, the last transfer or the last owner change.

The transfer fee renews the domain for 1 year.

Request the authorization password (AUTH-ID) and removal of any registrar change prohibition from your current registrar.

Domain transfer procedure

Before transferring a domain, we recommend disabling DNSSEC following your current registrar’s instructions.

Submit your domain transfer request using the form in Customer Administration. Open it as follows:

  1. Log in to Customer Administration ⧉.
  2. In the top menu, select the tab Domains.
  3. In the left menu, click Transfer domain.

In step 1 of the transfer order, enter the domain you want to transfer and indicate whether you also want to create Webhosting for it in a subsequent order. Webhosting is not part of the domain transfer order.

In the next step, enter the domain’s authorization password. For CZ domains, you can request it here to be sent directly to the owner’s email. Complete the other specific settings and continue with the order.

If the transfer form does not offer to send the authorization password for your domain, request it from your current registrar.

Complete the domain transfer order.

If a transfer fee applies, the system immediately sends payment details to the service’s billing email. It starts the transfer as soon as the fees are successfully paid.

Transfers normally take up to 1 hour after all requirements are met. If a transfer takes longer, check that you completed all necessary confirmations.

CZ domain transfer

A CZ domain transfer completes within 1 hour of completing the transfer order.

A CZ domain transfer does not change the owner’s domain contact or that contact’s registrar. To transfer the domain contact to us as well, follow the guide Domains – Contact Management.

SK domain transfer

When transferring an SK domain, you can assign it to an existing owner contact registered with us or create a new contact during the order. The registry does not support contact transfers.

EU domain transfer

When transferring an EU domain, you can assign it to an existing owner contact registered with us or create a new contact during the order. The registry does not support contact transfers.

PL domain transfer

After the transfer fee is paid, the NASK registry sends an email requiring transfer confirmation by clicking a link. After confirmation, the registry sends another email notifying you of the transfer. Registry emails are in Polish and English.

When transferring a PL domain, the system creates a new domain contact with the same details as the original. The new contact has a different ID. The registry does not support contact transfers.

gTLD or nTLD domain transfer

When transferring a generic domain, you can assign it to an existing owner contact registered with us or create a new contact during the order. The registry does not support contact transfers.

After the transfer fee is paid, VEDOS sends an email requiring transfer confirmation by clicking a link. The link is valid for 5 days, after which the request expires. This also verifies the domain owner’s email.

Reactivate an expired request by entering the domain’s authorization password in the form in its details ⧉. Entering the authorization password again sends another confirmation email. The transfer cannot be completed without confirmation via the email link.

The original registrar may or may not send a transfer approval email:

  • If you approve through the original registrar’s email, the transfer completes within 1 hour.
  • If you reject it through the original registrar’s email, you can restart the transfer in the domain details using the procedure above. If you have changed your mind about transferring, use the form ⧉ to request order cancellation and a credit note for the domain renewal fee.
  • If the original registrar sends no email, or you do not confirm it, the transfer completes 5 days after the initial confirmation.

When transferring a gTLD or nTLD domain, you can assign it to an existing owner contact registered with us or create a new contact during the order. Registries do not support contact transfers.

Bulk domain transfer

Bulk domain transfer requires an active Credit Account with sufficient credit to cover all transferred domains’ fees, excluding VAT.

To open the bulk transfer interface, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Customer Administration ⧉.
  2. In the top menu, select the tab Domains.
  3. In the left menu, click the link Bulk transfer.

Enter the domains to transfer in the form, one per line. You can enter each domain’s authorization password on the same line, separated from the domain name by a space.

In the next step, enter the domain authorization passwords and accept the transfer terms. Continue with the button Continue.

Tip: You can request CZ domain authorization passwords in bulk from our administration. Simply paste the list of CZ domains to transfer into the field on this link ⧉.

If everything is correct, check all details and the total transfer price one last time, then confirm the order with the button Finish.

For information about the next transfer steps, see the section Domain transfer.

Common issues

Common domain transfer issues include:

Domain already registered

Problem: The following error appears: The domain cannot be transferred – It is already registered with us.

Cause: The domain is already registered with WEDOS. If it is not in your customer account, it is in someone else’s, such as a former administrator’s.

Solution: To move the domain from another customer’s account to your own, follow the guide Domains – Moving Using an Authorization Password.

The authorization password is not arriving

Problem: The authorization password is not arriving.

Cause: Most often, the password is being sent to a mailbox other than the one you are checking. In some cases, the recipient’s system may classify it as SPAM.

Solution: Check the SPAM folder. If the message is not there either, verify that you are checking the correct email account. If you do not know the domain owner’s email, ask your registrar for a hint.

Incorrect authorization password

Problem: The transfer failed. An email arrived: Dear customer, the transfer of domena.tld could not be completed because an incorrect authorization password “**********” was entered. …

Cause: The authorization password entered is incorrect. Common causes include:

  • entering a customer ID,
  • entering another domain’s or domain contact’s authorization password,
  • an expired authorization password (single-use or time-expired),
  • an incorrectly copied authorization password, for example with spaces or character entities.

Solution: Follow the email instructions. Check that you are entering the current authorization password. Registries may change it after some time or an operation, so make sure it has not changed.

Transfer taking a long time

Problem: The transfer has been running for several days.

Cause: Most often, a confirmation email from the current registrar has been overlooked.

Solution: Check that the transfer has been paid for successfully and all transfer-related emails have been confirmed.

Settings unavailable

Problem: After requesting transfer, the domain’s DNS servers or other settings cannot be changed.

Cause: A domain transfer may be a lengthy process entirely controlled by the registry. Neither the original nor new registrar may receive immediate feedback on its progress or be able to inform the owner in real time.

Solution: Make all potentially risky changes, particularly DNS server changesand disabling DNSSEC) before starting the transfer, and make sure changes were saved correctly. Then do everything possible to speed up the transfer: pay fees using fast payment methods and watch your email for confirmation links.

Domain not working after transfer

Problem: After transferring the domain and setting up Webhosting/WebSite, the domain still points to the previous hosting or has stopped working.

Cause: The transferred domain is not using our DNS servers. The original registrar may have disconnected theirs.

Solution: Change DNS servers manually following the guide Domains – Configuring DNS Servers (NSSET).

Frequently asked questions

How do gTLD transfers from Ascio directly to WEDOS work?

Before we obtained ICANN accreditation for direct gTLD registration, we had to use Ascio as an intermediary. This involved various restrictions. We can now register domains directly through this page in Customer Administration.

If I transfer someone else’s domain, do I become its owner?

The main purpose of a domain transfer is to change the registrar, not the owner. To change the domain owner, follow the guide Domains – Changing the Owner. Requiring the authorization password verifies that the change is made by an authorized person.

How do I transfer a domain from VEDOS to another registrar?

Nejdříve doménu přidejte do DNS v naší zákaznické administraci a nastavte v ní stejné DNS záznamy, jaké má doména nyní, a teprve potom změňte DNS servery. Postup najdete v návodech DNS - Adding a Domain a Domains – Managing DNS Servers (NSSET).

Pokud žádná taková změna neproběhla a v diagnostice domény zámek vidíte, napište přes kontaktní formulář ⧉ název domény. Autorizační heslo se posílá bez ohledu na zámek; nepřichází-li, zkontrolujte e-mail majitele domény.
