Services – Transferring to Another Customer

On this pagePreparing a service for handoverDomain handoverHosting service handoverCommon issuesFrequently asked questions

This guide covers handing a service over completely to another person. To change only the billing customer, follow the guide Services – Billing Details.

In this guide, you will learn:

Preparing a service for handover

Each service managed from your customer account has details independent of that account. All information needed for operation is stored directly with the service itself.

Changing customer account details or moving a service to another customer does not affect the service’s own details (billing details and owner/operator details).

Before handing over a service, make sure it has the new owner’s billing details. Follow the guide Services – Billing Details.

Domain handover

Once the domain has the new owner’s billing details set, you can proceed to the next step: changing the domain owner following the guide Domains – Changing the Owner.

You can then move the domain to the new owner’s customer account following the guide Services – Moving Between Accounts. However, the new owner can also move it themselves using the authorization password, or transfer it to another registrar. A domain transfer generally changes neither the owner nor the DNS servers (NSSET) of the domain.

Hosting service handover

Once the hosting service has the new owner’s billing details set, you can proceed to the next step: changing the service operator. The process is the same for all hosting services and follows the guide Services – Changing the Operator.

Then move the hosting to the new owner’s customer account following the guide Services – Moving Between Accounts.

Common issues

Common service handover issues include:

Invoices go to the original owner

Problem: I transferred a domain to a new owner, but I still receive invoices.

Cause: The two most common causes are that you transferred only the domain and still receive invoices for Webhosting that was not handed over (or vice versa), or you did not permanently change billing details in the system following the guide to changing service billing details.

Solution: For services you do not want to hand over or pay for, terminate it. Services in another customer account can be edited only by its owner or a user authorized to manage those services. If you do not have permission, ask us ⧉to contact the new owner and request an update to the service billing details. The change itself is up to the owner.
