With a few minor exceptions, an authorized user can manage your services as if they were in their own customer account. VEDOS accepts no responsibility for any damage caused by an authorized user’s actions.
In this article, you will learn:
- What user permissions are for
- How to manage an authorized user’s access:
- How to manage services you are authorized to use
- Common issues
- Frequently asked questions
The authorized user’s role
An authorized user can manage another customer’s services as if they were in their own account. For example, you can make your administrator an authorized user without giving them your login details.
Before granting permissions, make sure you can trust the authorized user. Their powers over your services will be comparable to your own.
You can grant an authorized user access to any service, billing or management of the Credit Account.
Creating an authorized user
Anyone with a WEDOS customer account can be an authorized user. Creating ⧉ and maintaining a customer account is free.
First, obtain the ID and login of the user you want to grant permissions to. They can find the required details as follows:
- They log in to Customer Administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, they select My account Customer.
- They give you their User ID and Email.

Simply adding an authorized user does not grant that person any permission to manage your services.
To add an authorized user, follow these steps:
- Log in to Customer Administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select My account Customer.
- In the left menu, select Authorized users.
- Click the button Add authorized user.
- Enter Customer account ID of the authorized user and their login (email).
- Click the button Apply.

Continue to the section Assigning and removing services.
Assigning and removing services
After adding an authorized user, you automatically proceed to their permission settings. If you have just added the user, continue to the subsection Assigning services.
To add or remove services for an existing user, open the interface Customer account permission settings as follows:
- Log in to Customer Administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select My account Customer.
- In the left menu, select Authorized users.
- Click the magnifying glass icon for the selected authorized user.

Assigning services
Assign services to an authorized user in the interface Customer account permission settings. Follow these steps:
- In the table Assigned permissions select Group of services you want to assign to the user.
- Confirm your selection with the button Add.
- In the new table Permission settings for category select the specific services you want to assign to the user.
- Below the service table, choose whether new services in this category should also be assigned to the user automatically. Automatic assignment is disabled by default.
- Click Save permissions.

Removing services
You can remove an individual service or an entire group. To remove the entire account, go to the section Blocking or removing an authorized user.
To remove an individual service, follow these steps:
- In the table Assigned permissions click the magnifying glass icon for the selected service group.
- Clear the checkboxes for the services you want to remove from the authorized user.
- Click the button Save permissions.

To remove an entire service group, click the cross icon next to the group name in the table Assigned permissions.
Blocking or removing an authorized user
You can block an authorized user (deactivate), temporarily preventing access to your services. You can unblock them at any time and activate their access.
Alternatively, you can completely remove the authorized user. If you want to add the same user again, you must configure all settings and assign services again.
To block or remove an authorized user, follow these steps:
- Log in to Customer Administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select My account Customer.
- In the left menu, select Authorized users.
- Click the magnifying glass icon for the selected authorized user.
- Click the button deactivate (to block) or remove the authorized user.

Service management by an authorized user
Authorized users view assigned services in their own administration panel. The overview appears below their own services in the relevant category.

Managing assigned services works exactly like managing your own services.
Common issues
Common authorized user setup issues include:
- The user cannot see the shared services
- The user cannot manage DNS for a shared domain
- Incorrect customer account ID
- The administrator does not have a WEDOS account
Shared services are not displayed
Problem: The authorized user cannot see the shared services in their account.
Cause: Assigning a service type (domains, Webhosting, etc.) is not enough; you must also assign individual services.
Solution: Make sure you have assigned the selected services (or all services) to the user as described in the section Assigning services.
Domain user has no DNS management access
Problem: The user has access to the domain but cannot edit DNS.
Cause: The domain and DNS are separate services.
Solution: Grant the authorized user access to both the domain and DNS.
Wrong customer account ID
Problem: The following error appears: The customer account ID must not match your own customer account ID.
Cause: You are probably entering your own customer account ID instead of the administrator’s account ID by mistake.
Solution: Find and enter the login and ID of the other account you want to grant access to, as described in the section Creating an authorized user.
The authorized user has no WEDOS account
Problem: My administrator does not have a WEDOS account.
Solution: Create an account for the administrator. Creating and maintaining it is free. If the administrator does not want to use their own email address, they can create a new mailbox specifically for managing WEDOS services.
Frequently asked questions
I manage customers’ domains and Webhosting services in my account. What is the best way to ensure they retain access if something happens to me?
In that case, we recommend keeping the following settings:
- The domain owner is the end customer, rather than the administrator. If the administrator is unavailable, the domain owner can always change the customer account, or the registrar.
- The end customer is an authorized user of the Webhosting service. This applies only if the hosting is exclusively theirs. If it is shared with other customers, give each customer their own FTP access (only to the folder containing their website) and their own database, which they can migrate to another hosting service in their own account.
For more information about an end customer moving services from another account (the administrator’s), see this guide.
My customers run websites on my Webhosting/WMS service. Should I make each of them an authorized user?
In this case, give each customer their own FTP access (only to the folder containing their website) and their own database. Do not add these customers as authorized users unless you have another good reason to do so.
Can an authorized user pay for my services from their Credit Account?
No, and they cannot pay from yours either.
