This article deals with domain redirection, i.e. changing the address to another domain. To redirect a domain to a specific service, follow the instructions in Domains - Redirect to Services.
Basic domain redirection does not work with HTTPS. To redirect a domain using HTTPS, follow the instructions in the HTTPS Redirection with WEDOS Protection chapter or the Web Hosting - Redirecting a Domain with HTTPS article.
In this guide you will learn:
Site redirection
You can redirect a domain to another website in two ways, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages:
- It is very easy to set up redirection through the customer administration, both for the main domain and all subdomains that do not have their own DNS record. However, this redirection itself does not work with HTTPS and you can only set it up for domains registered with us.
- Web hosting redirection can work with HTTPS and you can set it up for any domain or subdomain. To set it up, you need to have an active webhosting service with aliases (NoLimit, NoLimit Extra variants). The setup itself requires editing files on FTP.
Basic site redirection
Basic site redirection in the administration will take effect within 1 hour if set up correctly.
Before setting up, make sure that the address you are redirecting to does not redirect back to the original domain.
Before you set up a redirect in the customer administration, make sure that:
- The domain is registered with VEDOS.
- The domain uses our DNS servers.
- Nowhere do you refer to the forwarded domain address with the https:// protocol.
Then follow these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- Select Domains from the top menu.
- Select the domain you want to redirect from the menu.
- Select Redirection Settings from the left menu.
- In the WWW Redirect box, fill in the address to which you want to redirect.
- Click Set up redirection.

To cancel the redirection, point the domain to the service, or edit the DNS manually.
HTTPS redirection via WEDOS Protection
If you want the redirection to work with HTTPS, you can use one of the WEDOS Protection &boxbox functionality. Follow these steps:
- Activate the additional WEDOS Protection service on the domain.
- V WEDOS Global &boxbox administration; make sure the domain has set Destination IP address ⧉
46.28.105.4.

This setting ensures that if the user enters a redirected domain in the form https://..., the redirection takes place and does not end with an error. But the whole redirection process is not encrypted, which is why you see an HTTPS warning next to the IP address of the redirect server.
HTTPS redirection via Webhosting
For instructions on how to redirect via Webhosting, see the article Webhosting - HTTPS Domain Redirection.
Forwarding email
Always forward emails to a mailbox on a different domain.
If you need to route all emails to a domain to one mailbox, set up a domain trash according to the instructions in Emails - Domain, Permissions, Limits.
You can forward emails:
- From a domain registered with WEDOS. With this option you do not need web hosting and no emails, just an existing email box on another domain. The system redirects all e-mails sent to any address (mailbox) of this domain to the specified mailbox.
- From the hosting mailbox. This redirection option affects only one specific mailbox instead of the entire domain. For instructions on how to set this up, see the article Emails - Mailbox Redirection.
Redirecting from a domain
Redirecting emails in the administration from the domain will take effect within 1 hour if set up correctly.
Before you set up the redirection, make sure that:
- The domain is registered with VEDOS.
- The domain uses our DNS servers.
Then follow these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- Select Domains from the top menu.
- Select the domain you want to redirect from the menu.
- Select Redirection Settings from the left menu.
- In the Email forwarding box, fill in the address you want to forward to.
- Click Set up redirection.

To cancel the redirection, point the domain to an existing service, or change the DNS MX records manually.
Redirect from mailbox
Set up the redirection directly on the mailbox of the Webhosting (incl. WMS), Mailhosting, or WebSite service according to the instructions of the Emails - Mailboxes.
Common problems
Common problems with basic domain redirection include:
Broken site redirection
Problem: An error message is displayed instead of the redirected site.
Cause: Most often, it is a case of entering the address of the original domain with https, which does not support basic redirection. Some services, including browser address bars, automatically add it to links.
More rarely, a conflict or redirect loop occurs, where the new domain redirects back to the old one. This situation is commonly characterized by a TOO MANY REDIRECTS error message.
Solution: Make sure you are not entering the forwarded domain address with HTTPS. Our redirection server does not support this protocol, so if you need to redirect with HTTPS, follow the instructions in the chapter on HTTPS redirection using WEDOS Protection, or Webhosting - redirect domain with HTTPS. Next, check that the domain you are redirecting to does not redirect back to the original domain.
Forwarded emails are not arriving
Problem: Forwarded emails are not arriving in the destination mailbox.
Cause: Most often it is the destination mailbox settings on the domain you are redirecting. In other cases, anti-spam mechanisms prevent delivery.
Solution: Check your SPAM folder.
If you get an error message mail for domena.tld loops back to myself, make sure the domain is not sending emails to itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I redirect a domain to myself, but with a www, or to another of my subdomains?
You can only set up such redirection through webhosting according to the Webhosting - HTTPS domain redirection instructions.
How do I redirect a domain over HTTPS?
Follow the instructions for Webhosting - redirecting a domain via HTTPS.
How to redirect a subdomain?
Basic redirection redirects all subdomains that do not have their own DNS records. If you need to redirect one specific subdomain, use the HTTPS redirect procedure.
How to redirect emails of a domain that has DNS elsewhere?
Ensure that it contains a single MX record with the address mxredir.wedos.net.
Is it possible to somehow set up emails from a domain to go to multiple email addresses?
Not in the customer administration, but you can forward emails from the target mailbox (from the administration or using the filters of the email client, including WebMail).
