You can find a simplified version of this guide in the article Getting Started – Moving from Another Provider.
Tento článek řeší přesun služeb od jiného poskytovatele služeb (registrátora domén nebo poskytovatele hostingu). Chcete-li služby přesunout od jiného uživatele v rámci VEDOS, postupujte podle návodu Services – Moving from Another VEDOS Account.
In this article, you will learn:
- How to move:
- Common issues
- Frequently asked questions
Moving a domain to VEDOS
A domain and hosting are two different services. You can run a website, email or both with VEDOS while keeping your domain registered with another company.
Before moving a domain, make sure we offer its extension in our selection ⧉. If we do not offer your extension, you cannot move the domain to us, but you can still set up DNS and website hostingové služby.
To keep all services under one roof, transfer the domain to us following the guide Domains – Transfer.
Moving a website to VEDOS
You can move almost any website to VEDOS if you have access to its source files via FTP and, if applicable, databases. This also applies to most websites created using content management systems such as WordPress.
A typical website move consists of these steps:
- Ordering Webhosting or another service
- Migrating files and databases
- Checking before going live
- Pointing the domain (DNS)
Ordering hosting
For most websites, we recommend ordering Webhosting with the NoLimit plan ⧉. The service has these basic features:
- Support for secure HTTPS access
- Recent PHP versions and MariaDB databases
- Unlimited file storage for websites
- Sufficient performance for most modern content management systems
- 5 GB of email storage, expandable to 0.5 TB.
If your web application needs more performance, consider Webhosting with the Extra plan ⧉, or the service WMS ⧉ with dedicated resources.
If your application needs special technologies or operating system access as well as performance, consider using VPS ⧉.
We do not provide support for moving websites to server services.

Migrating files and databases to Webhosting
You can move files and databases to newly created Webhosting in these ways:
- Automatic file and data migration in basic mode, if your website either does not use databases or is built with WordPress. Follow the guide Webhosting – Automatic Data Migration.
- Automatic file and data migration in expert mode, if your website uses databases or you want full control over migration. Follow the guide Webhosting – Expert Automatic Data Migration.
- A content management system plugin, such as the WordPress plugins UpDraftPlus ⧉, or Duplicator ⧉. Follow the plugin’s instructions.
- Manually following the instructions below.
If automatic migration does not work correctly, download the original Webhosting files and export its databases, then upload them to the new Webhosting. These guides can help:
- Webhosting – File Management
- Webhosting – Databases
- Webhosting – Database Import and Export in phpMyAdmin
After migrating databases, update their details in the website configuration files.
Checking before going live
During automatic migration, we provide a free domain where you can check that the website works.
If you do not have such a domain, you can check it:
- Using the internal Webhosting address. It has a format such as
http://123456.w78.wedos.ws/and is listed in the Webhosting setup email or service details in Customer Administration. It displays the contents of the folder www. It may not work correctly with some frameworks and content management systems, including WordPress. - On the domain using the hosts file. In the file hosts of your operating system, you can assign the domain a different address from the one DNS would provide. Edit this file following your operating system’s instructions and assign the domain the new Webhosting IP address, listed in the setup email or service details in Customer Administration.

Pointing the domain (DNS)
If the website works correctly after migration, you can point the domain to it:
- Automatically: If you have a domain and DNS with VEDOS, you can automatically point DNS to the new Webhosting or Mailhosting following the guide Domains – Pointing to Services. The system overwrites the current settings for records of type A, AAAA and MX.
- Manually: If you use WEDOS DNS, follow the guide DNS – Domain Records. Set new domain records of type A, AAAA and MX.
If neither your domain nor DNS is with VEDOS, configure the Webhosting DNS records at your provider.
Moving email to VEDOS
You can move email to newly created hosting in these ways:
- Automatic migration of mailboxes. Follow the guide Email – Automatic Migration.
- Manually using an email client.
Automatically migrate email to:
If you need to create new mailboxes manually, follow the guide Email – Mailboxes.
Moving DNS to WEDOS
Although DNS record changes usually take up to 1 hour and DNS server changes 6 – 48 hours, we recommend making them only after thoroughly checking the website on the new hosting.
Moving DNS to WEDOS is not automatic, even if you transfer your domain to us. To use our DNS, enter the DNS servers
ns.wedos.net ns.wedos.cz ns.wedos.eu ns.wedos.com
or, for CZ domains, use the NSSET named WEDOS.
For detailed instructions on setting DNS servers (NSSET) for domains registered with WEDOS, see the article Domains – DNS Servers (NSSET).
If your domain, DNS and hosting are all with us, you can point DNS records in a few clicks following the guide Domains – Pointing DNS to Services. To configure DNS records manually, follow the guide DNS – Domain Records.
After pointing DNS to Webhosting, you can activate an HTTPS certificate. For detailed instructions, see the article Webhosting – Quick HTTPS Setup.
Common issues
Mezi běžné problémy s přesunem služeb od jiného poskytovatele patří:
- FTP unavailable on the original hosting
- The message “Webhosting is active” appears instead of the migrated website
- The website does not work correctly after migration
FTP unavailable on the original hosting
Problem: The original hosting has no accessible FTP from which to obtain the website files.
Solution: If FTP is merely blocked, ask the provider’s support to restore access or provide a backup.
If the provider does not offer FTP access at all, the website probably cannot be moved.
Webhosting is active
Problem: Even after copying files via FTP, the green page is displayed Webhosting is active.
Cause: The page is cached in the browser, or there is a directory/file structure issue.
Solution: First, use the keys Ctrl+Shift+R to check that this content is not merely cached in the browser.
If the issue persists, log in via FTP and check that the website meets one of these conditions:
- The website is uploaded to the folder www and the original file index.html has been overwritten by your website’s index.html or deleted if you use index.php.
- The website is uploaded to the folder www/domains/domena.tld, where domena.tld is the domain on which it should work, without www. The www folder contains the default .htaccess file.
The migrated website does not work correctly
Problem: The migrated website displays errors or is broken.
Solution: Look up the issue and its solution in the article Webhosting – Website Not Working After Migration.
