Services - Transfer from a foreign WEDOS account

This article deals with moving your services from someone else's customer account (typically a site administrator) to yours. If you want to transfer your service to another customer, follow the instructions in Services - Transferring to another customer.

In this article you will learn:

Terms of transferring services from another account

VEDOS acts only on the basis of:

To move services from someone else's account to your own, you must first create your own account. If you already have an account, log in.

Cooperation with the administrator

If the original service administrator is cooperating, ask them to transfer the services to you by following the instructions in Services - Transfer to another customer.

After you have these services in your account, check thoroughly:

For existing services, check and possibly consider changing passwords (for security reasons) for FTP, databases, or content management systems (WordPress and others).

If the original administrator is not cooperating, follow the instructions below.

Transferring a domain from another account

If the original administrator is unwilling or unable to transfer the domain according to the instructions in the Service - Transfer to another customer, you can transfer it under the following conditions:

If the domain is in the email and name of the administrator, there is nothing we can do. You should resolve the matter through the courts - i.e. by filing a lawsuit against your administrator. Based on the court decision, we will then move the domain under your account.

Move using the domain owner's email

Follow the instructions in Domains - Move using an authorization password. The password will be sent to the domain owner's email in the registry (which may be different from the email of the customer account owner where the domain is located).

Move based on name or company name

If all of the domain owner's information is yours except for email or phone contact information, follow these steps:

  1. Create a new domain contact at the appropriate registry by following the instructions in Domains - Create a new contact.
  2. Write via the form ⧉ the request according to the template:

Žádám o změnu majitele domény (závorku nahraďte názvem domény) na kontakt (závorku nahraďte identifikátorem nově založeného kontaktu, např. WEDOS-ABC-12345). Doménu pak přesuňte do zákaznického účtu ID (závorku nahraďte ID účtu, např. 123456) s loginem (závorku nahraďte e-mailovou adresou, kterou se přihlašujete do Vašeho účtu).

  1. The Authorization Department will send you an application, which you print out, have the domain owner's signature officially verified, and send it to:

WEDOS Internet, a.s.
domain department
Masarykova 1230
37341 Hluboká nad Vltavou

If the domain is registered in the name of a legal entity, the application must be confirmed by its statutory body or a person authorised to act for the entity. In this case, attach a copy of the extract from the commercial register or other document confirming the authority of the signatory to the certified signature.

The normal processing time for an application is 5 working days.

Moving a site from a foreign account

You may move the Web Hosting, WMS or WebSite service itself to your account only with the cooperation of the current administrator as described in the Service Instructions - Transfer to Another Customer.

If the administrator is not cooperating, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you have the appropriate domain in your customer account or that this account is an authorized user. If the domain is not registered with VEDOS, please contact us to check its status and suggest a course of action.
  2. Use the ⧉ form to request support to remove your domain's web hosting name. If the domain name is not registered with us, please provide proof that you are the owner.
  3. After releasing the domain name of the web host, set up a new web host.
  4. Migrate your data from the original web host to the new one, either by automatic migration or manually.

The condition for data transfer is access to the FTP of the original webhost. If you do not have this access, you cannot move the website. For this reason, it is not possible to move sites created in the WebSite editor without the cooperation of the administrator.

If you don't have any access, you should take legal action against your administrator. We may move the services to another account based on a court order.

Moving emails from another account

You may only move the Web Hosting, WMS, WebSite, or Mail Hosting (hereinafter referred to as hosting) service itself to your account with the cooperation of the current administrator as described in the Service Instructions - Transfer to Another Customer.

If you have already set up a new web host from the previous procedure, the following procedure will only migrate your emails from the original hosting to the new one, either using automatic migration or manually.

If the administrator is not cooperating, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you have the appropriate domain in your customer account or that this account is an authorized user. If the domain is not registered with WEDOS, please contact us for verification procedures.
  2. Use the ⧉ form to request support to remove the hosting name of the domain. If the domain is not registered with us, please contact us for verification procedure.
  3. After releasing the hosting domain name, create a new hosting.
  4. Migrate your emails from the original hosting to the new one, either by automatic migrationor manually.

The condition for moving emails is access to individual mailboxes of the original hosting. If you do not have this access, you cannot move the emails.

Open the automatic email migration interface to:

If you don't have any access, you should take legal action against your administrator. We may move the services to another account based on a court order.

Transferring billing from a foreign account

When transferring services by any method, all invoices issued before the transfer remain in the original customer account.

If you want to issue new invoices after the transfer of services, please change the billing information according to the Services - Billing Information instructions.

Common problems

Common problems with transferring services from another customer's account include:

The original service is unavailable

Problem: We have access to the FTP or email boxes of the original service, but we can't log in.

Cause: FTP and email boxes are normally unavailable after the service expires. In rare cases, we may block these accesses from our side. However, accesses can be changed by an uncooperative administrator.

Solution: If the FTP or email box is unavailable due to an error on our side or the expiration of the service not more than 5 days ago, we can resolve the situation from our side. Please write via the form ⧉, provide the name of the service, the problematic FTP account (email box) and a screenshot ⧉ of the error message.

If the owner of the account where the service is located has changed the FTP (e-mail) password or has completely blocked or deleted the account, we unfortunately cannot intervene without a court order.

Cannot create a service with a domain name

Problem: When trying to create a new service for a domain, an error message This domain name cannot be used. - The domain name is already in use on another service.

Cause: the system does not allow new hosting services to be set up with the names or aliases of existing services, with a few exceptions.

Solution: Follow the instructions in Moving a site from a foreign account or Moving emails from a foreign account to ask support to remove the service name and wait for a confirmation reply.
