Alias mailboxes
If you direct multiple domains to a single web hosting using aliases , all of these domains share the mailboxes of that Webhosting. For example, on the Webhosting domain.tld with the alias alias-domain.tld one mailbox receives info emails sent to both info@domain.tldand info@alias-domain.tld.
A variant of an alias mailbox is a name alias instead of a domain alias; for example, the mailbox info@domain.tld can have the alias ladik@domain.tld. You set up such an alias according to the guide Email – Mailboxes and it can have an identity just like a domain alias.
In this case, incoming mail cannot be separated in any way, you can only filter it. However, you can set which address you send mail from.
Sending emails using an identity
Desktop and mobile email clients usually support identity settings as well. To set them up there, follow the guide for the given software.
You must first create an identity for sending mail from an alias mailbox or domain. In the email client WebMail ⧉ you set up an identity with the following steps:
- Log in to WebMail ⧉.
- Click the Settings.
- In the menu, select Identities.
- Click the Create.
- Fill in the form and click the Save.

Fill in especially the fields Display Name and Email.
If you tick the Set default, the client will prefer this identity over the one made up of the actual mailbox and web hosting name.
In this form, you can also set a custom automatic signature.
By setting up an identity, you gain the ability to choose which name you send mail under. You make the selection in a new message or reply by choosing From.

Common problems
Common problems with alias identities include:
SMTP error (553)
Problem: The following error is displayed: Unable to add recipient … Sender address Rejected: not owned by user …
Cause: The specified identity is not a valid alias of the mailbox you are logged in to.
Solution: Make sure that the domain is an alias of the correct Webhosting, or that the mailbox actually has the corresponding alias set up.
Frequently Asked Questions
I have websites of many companies on one Webhosting and want to create a separate info mailbox for each of them. How can I do that?
The info mailbox is shared by all alias domains on the web hosting (e.g. both info@company1.tld and info@company2.tld). If you want to set up a separate mailbox for each company that is not shared with the others, try, for example, info-company1, or another unique mailbox name whose access details you then share with the company. Messages sent to the other alias domains (e.g. info-company1@company2.tld) can still arrive in this mailbox, but only the company with the password for this specific mailbox will have access to it.
