Comparison of Web Hosting and Website Services
The Web Hosting ⧉ and Website ⧉ services are both primarily used to publish websites on the internet and, where applicable, to provide email services.
- Web hosting is usedto run your own website or web application, or a content management system (WordPress, Joomla, PrestaShop, and others). You can run virtually any application that uses HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. All web hosting plans are paid and include email accounts.
- The SODEW website isa web hosting service that includes an AI-powered website editor based on the WordPress content management system, which you use to create all your content. Email is not included in the service, so you will need Mailhosting ⧉ to manage your email.
Switching from Web Hosting to the SODEW Website
If you want to create a website using the SODEW Website service instead of your existing web hosting, all you need to do is ensure that your domain is properly configured in the DNS. For more information, see the SODEW ⧉ documentation.
Termination of Web Hosting
If you have no other use for the Web Hosting, terminate it.
You can request a refund for web hosting set up no more than 7 days before you submit your cancellation notice. Older web hosting plans can only be allowed to run out.
Migrating from WebSite 1.0 to Web Hosting
To create a website using Webhosting instead of an existing WebSite, you need to:
If you do not wish to continue using the WebSite, please terminate it after the transition is complete.
Release of the WebSite 1.0 domain name
You release the WebSite domain name by renaming it.
You can rename the WebSite you want to continue using directly to the new domain name by following the instructions in WebSite - Change Domain. If you no longer want to use the WebSite, rename it to a name with an unused subdomain, e.g. staryweb.domena.tld.
When the WebSite name is released, the old site will stop working. The block editor will still be accessible.

Setting up a Web Hosting
Create a web hosting by filling out the order form ⧉. The system will set up the service within 1 hour of receiving payment.
After setting up Webhosting, we recommend activating HTTPS according to this guide.
Termination of WebSite
If you have no other use for the WebSite Service, terminate it.
You may request a refund for a WebSite set up no more than 7 days prior to giving notice. Older WebSites can only be allowed to expire, but as part of your notice you can request a transfer of the remaining funds to the new WebHosting you have set up. Please indicate your request in the Reason for Termination box, including the name of the service you wish to transfer the funds to.
Transfer emails between services
If you have email accounts set up with the original service, after the transition:
- Emails from Website 1.0 will no longer be accessible via the original domain name on the web hosting service. If the new (sub)domain does not exist, no new emails will be delivered to the mailboxes, but the existing emails will remain in the mailboxes until they are deleted or the entire service is deleted.
- Emails will remain on the Webhosting service when you migrate from Webhosting to the SODEW website. If you want to use only email services with VEDOS, switch to Mailhosting.
If you need to access emails with the original service, you can use the mail client or WebMail ⧉. Change the login name for the mailbox to a form with the new name of the original service, e.g. info@stary.domena.tld.
Terminated WebHosting or WebSite will be deleted by the system 7 days after expiration.
To keep the emails running, set up identical mailboxes on the new service by following the instructions in Emails - Mailboxes. Then migrate older emails to the new mailboxes using the Emails - Automatic Migration instructions.
For detailed instructions on how to switch between Webhosting and Mailhosting services, see Services - Switching between Webhosting and Mailhosting.
Common problems
Common errors when switching between Web Hosting and WebSite include:
- Existing service order with the same name
- Domain in another customer account
- Displaying an error or old site
Existing order with the same name
Problem: The error message: There is already an order (services) for this domain in the system.

Cause: the system records an existing service or an active service order with a given domain name (alias).
Solution: Make sure that renaming or removing the alias of the original service was done correctly. If the original service name remains, try renaming the service again from a different browser.
If an unpaid order prevents you from renaming or setting up a new service, ask &boxbox support to cancel it.
Domain in another customer account
Problem: Error: domain is in another customer account.

Cause: if you are renaming a service to an existing domain registered with WEDOS or creating a service for this domain, the service and the domain must be at least temporarily in the same customer account.
Solution: Move the domain at least temporarily to your own account using an authorization password or service transfer using a login and ID.
Broken or old website
Problem: An old website or error message is displayed.
Cause: web content is often cached in the browser. The cached site may then display the data of the original site, even though the domain is already pointing to a different hosting.
Webhosting and WebSite have different DNS records of type A and AAAA. The MX records are the same. When renaming and setting up services, you can have the DNS records set up automatically - if you reject the automatic change by unchecking the appropriate box, you must later point the domain to the service.
Solution: If the original site is displayed, try loading it without the browser cache first using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+R.
If an error is displayed, point the domain to the new service by following the Domains - Pointing to Services instructions, or manually by following the DNS - Domain Records instructions. Automatic DNS routing only works if the domain has DNS records with us. Otherwise, you must manually set the DNS records according to the provider's instructions. Service addresses can be found in the same table in the Service Detail.
Frequently Asked Questions
I bought a domain with Webhosting and now I can't activate WebSite. Why?
Web hosting and WebSite are different services. WebSite includes its own web hosting, although its administration is not accessible from the customer administration. To use WebSite instead of WebHosting, switch from one service to the other according to these instructions.
What if I want to have both WebSite and content management system on one domain?
You can have a content management system or WebSite on a subdomain, but you must create a separate service for it.
