This guide covers SFTP access for the Hosting WP service. If you use Webhosting, follow the guide Webhosting – FTP Accounts.
In this guide you will learn:
- How SFTP access works for the Hosting WP service
- How to activate and deactivate SFTP
- Frequently Asked Questions
SFTP
SFTP access lets you manage files directly on the web server. It has the following features and limitations:
- Limited duration: When activating, you choose how long the SFTP access should stay active. Generally this means hours, at most days. You can extend the duration or end the activation immediately. Permanent activation is not supported.
- 1 account: A Hosting WP service can have at most 1 SFTP account active at a time.
- Credentials by email: When SFTP is activated, the system sends the server address, username and password to the billing email.
- FTP client: The WebFTP browser client does not support the SFTP protocol. Use an FTP application, for example FileZilla. Remember that for SFTP you need to set port 22.
Activating and deactivating SFTP
To activate SFTP for the Hosting WP service, follow these steps:
- Log in to the Customer Administration ⧉.
- In the navigation, select Hosting services Hosting WP.
- From the list, select the service for which you want to activate SFTP.
- In the left menu, select Tools.
- In the section SFTP access select the activation length.
- Click the button Activate Access and Send Credentials.

The system sends an email with the access details (SFTP server, username, password) to the billing email of the service.
Deactivating or extending an SFTP account
If you need to deactivate or extend an SFTP account, open the SFTP management interface as described in the chapter Activating and deactivating SFTP. In the section SFTP access you will find the following controls:
- A time period selector and the button Extend Validity to extend the access.
- The button Deactivate Access to cancel the SFTP account immediately.

Password recovery
You can also find the server address and login names in the Customer Administration. We send the password only by email. If you have lost the password, deactivate the access and activate it again. The system will send an email with a new login name and password.
Frequently Asked Questions
