On this pageConditions for moving services from another accountMoving a domain from another accountMoving a website from another accountMoving email from another accountCommon issues

This article covers moving your services from another customer account (typically your website administrator’s) to your own. To hand a service over to another customer, follow the guide Services – Transferring to Another Customer.

In this article, you will learn:

Conditions for moving services from another account

VEDOS acts only on the basis of:

  • Authorized requests sent through the contact form ⧉ by the customer whose account contains the service, or an authorized user.
  • A written request from the domain owner with an officially certified signature.
  • A decision by a court or another competent authority.

To move services from another account to your own, you must first create your own account. If you already have one, log in.

Cooperating with the administrator

If the original service administrator cooperates, ask them to hand the services over following the guide Services – Transferring to Another Customer.

Once these services are in your account, carefully check:

For existing services, also check and consider changing passwords for security reasons for FTP, databases, or content management systems such as WordPress.

If the original administrator does not cooperate, follow the guides below.

Moving a domain from another account

If the original administrator is unwilling or unable to hand over the domain following the guide Services – Transferring to Another Customer, you can move it under these conditions:

If the domain is registered under both the administrator’s email and name, we cannot intervene. Resolve the matter through the courts by bringing a claim against your administrator. We can then move the domain to your account based on a court decision.

Moving using the domain owner’s email

Follow the guide Domains – Moving Using an Authorization Password. The password arrives at the domain owner’s email listed in the registry, which may differ from the email of the owner of the customer account containing the domain.

Moving based on a personal or company name

If all domain owner details are yours except the email or phone contact, follow these steps:

  1. Create a new domain contact with the relevant registry following the guide Domains – Creating a New Contact.
  2. Use the form ⧉ to send a request following this template:

I request that the owner of the domain (replace the text in parentheses with the domain name) be changed to the contact (replace the text in parentheses with the newly created contact identifier, e.g. WEDOS-ABC-12345). Then move the domain to customer account ID (replace the text in parentheses with the account ID, e.g. 123456), with login (replace the text in parentheses with the email address you use to log in to your account).

  1. The authorization department will send you a request form. Print it, have the domain owner’s signature officially certified, and send it to:

WEDOS Internet, a.s.
Domain Department
Masarykova 1230
37341 Hluboká nad Vltavou

If the domain is registered to a legal entity, its statutory representative or another person authorized to act for it must confirm the request. In that case, attach a copy of a commercial register extract or another document proving the signatory’s authority to the officially certified signature.

Requests are normally processed within 5 business days.

Moving a website from another account

You can move the Webhosting, WMS or WebSite service itself to your account only with the current administrator’s cooperation, following the guide Services – Transferring to Another Customer.

If the administrator does not cooperate, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure the relevant domain is in your customer account or your account is its authorized user. If the domain is not registered with VEDOS, contact us ⧉ to verify its status and propose the next steps.
  2. Using the form ⧉ ask support to remove the domain’s Webhosting name. If the domain is not registered with us, provide proof that you own it.
  3. Once the Webhosting domain name is released, create new Webhosting.
  4. Migrate data from the original Webhosting to the new one, either using automatic migration, or manually.

Moving data requires FTP access to the original Webhosting. Without this access, the website cannot be moved. For this reason, websites created in the WebSite editor cannot be moved without the administrator’s cooperation.

If you have no access details, resolve the matter by bringing a claim against your administrator. Based on a court decision, we can move services to another account.

Moving email from another account

You can move a Webhosting, WMS, WebSite or Mailhosting service (hereafter hosting) itself to your account only with the current administrator’s cooperation, following the guide Services – Transferring to Another Customer.

If you already created new Webhosting using the previous procedure, you only need to migrate email from the original hosting to the new one, either using automatic migration, or manually.

If the administrator does not cooperate, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure the relevant domain is in your customer account or your account is its authorized user. If the domain is not registered with WEDOS, contact us ⧉ about the verification procedure.
  2. Using the form ⧉ ask support to remove the domain’s hosting name. If the domain is not registered with us, contact us about the verification procedure.
  3. Once the hosting domain name is released, create new hosting.
  4. Migrate email from the original hosting to the new one, either using automatic migration, or manually.

Moving email requires access to the individual mailboxes on the original hosting. Without this access, email cannot be moved.

Open automatic email migration to:

If you have no access details, resolve the matter by bringing a claim against your administrator. Based on a court decision, we can move services to another account.

Moving billing from another account

When services are moved by any method, all invoices issued before the move remain in the original customer account.

To issue new invoices after moving services, change billing details following the guide Services – Billing Details.

Common issues

Common issues when moving services from another customer’s account include:

Original service unavailable

Problem: We have FTP or mailbox access details for the original service, but cannot log in.

Cause: FTP and mailboxes are normally unavailable after service expiration. In rare cases, we may block access on our end. An uncooperative administrator may also change the access details.

Solution: If FTP or a mailbox is inaccessible because of an error on our side or service expiration no more than 5 days ago, we may be able to resolve it. Write using the form ⧉, providing the service name, the affected FTP account or mailbox, and a screenshot ⧉ of the error message.

If the owner of the account containing the service changed the FTP or email password, or completely blocked or deleted the account, we cannot intervene without a court order.

A service with the domain name cannot be created

Problem: When trying to create a new service for a domain, the following error appears: This domain name cannot be used. – The domain name is already used by another service.

Cause: With some exceptions, the system does not allow new hosting services with names or aliases already used by existing services.

Solution: Following the instructions in the section Moving a website from another account or Moving email from another account ask support to remove the service name and wait for confirmation.
